Trap Draw - 2024 Goals Pod

I’ve always heard that running it lower than a quarter of tank really boosts your chances sucking up crap into your fuel pump and jacking things up. but really, who could say?

We’ll need a 2021 goal thread going (or start using this one). I find it really inspiring to hear the guys talk about goals and see others’ goals on the ‘fuge.

Assuming Year of the Blade isn’t an option because of sponsor obligations, I was kind of feeling the Year of Revitalization. 2020 ended up being a bit of the Year of Staleness…feels like we all could use some revitalization going this year!

Once I get them figured out will post!

My Process and Revitalization goals are fairly dependent on getting the vid-vax. Might be punting all this to Q2.

That’s just golf goals! The physical and personal etc are great too!

I was going to use it but also wanted to track TV and books. So I’m just using a good old fashioned spreadsheet.

I move to rename the thread to all 2021 goals. I yield the remaining of my time to the distinguished gentle-lady from Canada.

@MerchCzar couldn’t help but notice your former employer influencing the structure of your goals with some heavy okr vibes. Perhaps the team can go all in on the process and provide scoring updates throughout the year?

Last year when the pandemic started I decided to set a goal of walking/running every street within the “inner city” area of my city. I am on urban planning twitter too, so I documented in photos a lot of the interesting development activity going on. Experiencing your city like this really connects you to the place. Fully recommend.

Having the goal was really important in having that sense of mission that motivates sticking with it. Even if the goal seems trivial or arbitrary (E.g @Randy’s 100 birdies), the byproducts are great (health, developing habits, discipline) and the goal itself is really helpful. Looking to do something like that this year, just don’t know what yet.

Whoa, this is really cool. Are the photos on your Twitter or is there a website where you have them?

Wow…I’ve never thought about this before. Do you have a mileage goal before a run or do you just run until you’re done? I run basically the same loop every day because I know the distance.

Thanks.

Yeah, the tweet quoted here is the beginning of the long string of photos. It gets pretty nerdy, including documenting mid century apartment building signs. Lol.

as mentioned in the pod. tough but fair

I have a wonky knee, so jogging is tough. I do walk, sprint intervals. I didn’t target mileage, just tried to fit in what I could time wise. Usually an hour or so a day.

That makes sense. I have it so engrained into my brain that I have to run a certain mileage that I struggle to just go out and run. Maybe having a run or two a week where I just run for a specific time instead of distance should be one of my 2021 goals.

Ok, I’ll get the ball rolling!

2021 Goals

Golf (I have put some golf goals on the Golf Goals thread but these are some more overall ones).

  • Hit a green in regulation with every club in the bag (other than driver/putter)
  • Play 5 new-to-me courses (hopefully this will also mean I’ve been able to do some travel this year!)

Physical

  • Do yoga 3 times a week.
  • Fewer than 6 strains below 10.1 and at least 2 strains above 14.1 on Whoop each month.

Personal

  • Get rid of debt. Canada’s very low interest rates on student loans make it not necessarily financially advantageous to prioritize paying off student loans, but I’ve been kicking the around for too long and I’m tired of them.
  • Cook one brand new recipe a month.
  • Have one day this year with overall screen time under an hour.

I also want to drink more water (not sure how to make this a goal, but just throwing it out there)

Yeah. I find running a grind, so having goals based on where to go (no two runs the same) certainly breaks up the monotony. Probably a little more fun/practical in the middle of a city like I did, compared to the burbs maybe (and much easier to do on a grid street system than cul-de-sacs, etc).
