Loved the energy from @MerchCzar throughout this. Similar handicaps, similar games, I’m joining the process in 2021. I used to be a whole lot better than I currently am so maybe this is ‘the year of recovery’. We’ll see.
Track basic data from every competitive 18 hole round (PP app)
Short game (50 yards and in) specific practice twice a month on average.
Conscious effort to pick the correct shot to play, not necessarily the bail out/safe shot.
Good luck everyone with their goals,
Let’s get it baby!
I’m excited to see the stats tell a story. I’ve been too anecdotal with goals in past years! I’m still torn between using GHIN app to record stats or something like Precision Pro. GHIN makes it easy for me to put everything in one place, but I was looking up if I could export those stats if I wanted to do some deeper analysis, and I can’t find anything.
I’d like to use a more robust like Precision Pro (enjoyed using it on Tourist Sauce Oregon), but it means one more app I’ve got to open. I know that sounds easy, but it just creates more friction for me to instill the habit…
I made an effort to track basic stats for each round last year and used the GHIN app. They upgraded it a couple times adding more features which was nice. Hoping they keep updating it this year to make it more robust.
Super logical. I don’t know what interface the GHIN handicap uses, but Golf Canada’s app allows you to export all of those stats - albeit you have to record on your phone and then export through your laptop if you want to do it.
I haven’t listened yet, but a big goal of mine this year is to get way more process focused as well. It is the way to go.
I had this issue when I tried to use GameGolf. Kept forgetting to tag before hitting, would have to go back and add shots during/after the round, was just too much to worry about. Switched over to Grint and entering scores at the next tee box is now part of my process and less to think about. Tee shot accuracy, any hazards, total score, and number of putts. Got a buddy to shout out what he has as well, a bit of accountability buddy system. As we’re walking off the green, “left, water drop, 5, 2 putt”. 4 taps on the screen, onto the next hole which also gives distance. Helps I use my phone instead of a rangefinder for distance so I have it out anyways. If you wanna see the stats section, lemme know. Bunch of different stuff it tracks (putting, gir/fir, iron game, scrambling, etc).
“Hunt for the Wilderpeople” – directed by @Randy’s Lord and Savior, Taika Waititi. Tried to give it a shot after my well-publicized thoughts on Jojo Rabbit and really enjoying “What We Do in the Shadows.” Delightful premise and start and just could not get into it no matter how hard I tried.
“Trumbo” – mentioned on the pod. Cranston is typically an auto-win for me, but it was so melodramatic and preachy and un-fun.
“First Cow” – Based on the insanely positive reviews, I probably need to give this one another shot, but, again, I just couldn’t settle in. I’m sure it all pays off, but it was painnnnfully slow and pretty antithetical to whatever I was needing from a movie that day.
“My Dinner with Andre” – Again, listen, I know it’s a classic, but holy shit, I just didn’t have the capacity for it on whatever day I watched it. It made the list because the GOAT Michael Bamberger told us it was his favorite movie, so Randy and I vowed to watch it. I think I got the gist, I thought about the decision to make a movie in that way, I just didn’t really care to be a part of either of those dude’s #journeys after about an hour and 15 minutes.
The wife got us one of those movie scratch off poster things for Christmas and it’s been a real treat in finding some hidden gems. I do a process of elimination by flipping a coin to help decide what one to watch next. The coin decided on Z from 1969, which was a nice little treat and really resonated with stuff going on today.
Please take this as a compliment @Randy but your 2020 practice goal paired with your handicap goal seems similar to getting good grades in college but not going to class. Failed the process but attained the ultimate goal.
That’s a cool idea. Used the holiday break to watch a ton of old movies with my parents that none of us had seen. It’s always funny to see just how well all the senses of humor and sarcasm hold up, even in stuff that was made 70 years ago.
I need to watch A Serious Man again. Loved both, but I haven’t seen either that or No Country since the years they came out, which is obviously a bit of a big right miss.
Top of the head Top Five (considering the above caveat) would be:
