Know what the best part of living in MN is? Flying out Friday morning to beat a blizzard, then golfing in the sun for five days…
Know what the worst part is? Coming back to that shit

About to do that on Saturday. Can’t wait to leave, already dreading coming back.
if this is an attempt to get the people going, it is working…I won’t swing a club outside for another 2.5 months…jealous you got your 5 days.
Has anyone else is this group started reading this fitting thread?
Lots of great stuff in there, on thing that stood out to me was the discussion around getting fit outside which makes perfect sense but at the same difficult given A.) MN season shortness; it may be dumb but when I buy a club or two I have always tried to do it before the season starts so I have it for the full season B.) not having a membership to a club where I know they do outdoor fittings.
Yeah I’ll be playing Pasatiempo in less than a week, haven’t touched my clubs since November.
I’ve probably played 10 hours of sim golf or so, but the rust is going to be ridiculous. Also playing with some refugees, so there will be some added pressure. Hahahaha.
Where you playing? Was down there last week with some friends. Was fun and it was one of the guy’s 40ths, but also a bit of a struggle going with non-golf sickos. Had to basically stiff arm them into playing a second 18 at Southern Dunes…and then spend the entire round listening to them bitch about the sand.
That’s insane, I would play Southern Dunes from sun up to sun down if I could.
Play anywhere else good?
I’m not playing golf until April
Same here, these guys, not so much. They’re the kind to hammer the margarita keg in the beverage cart then complain about heart burn.
Man do I love SD. Might be my favorite course anywhere.
Played Poston Butte, which is a Troon managed course in a retirement community way down in the middle of nowhere. It was a perfectly adequate course, with good strategic fairway bunkering off the tee, but was fairly unremarkable beyond that. We were staying in Chandler so the drive to get there wasn’t bad. Hit the ball real well, but couldn’t putt to save my life.
Final round was an exec course at the Bear Creek golf complex right by my buddy’s house. Accidentally booked the exec course and not the full course, which ended up being good as there was a frost delay and this allowed us to get back to the house in time for the Vikes game. Had a tee shot on a 65y par 3 that landed an inch from the cup, bounced off the stick and rolled to 6 ft. Missed the putt (story of the trip)…but avoided having my first ace come with an asterisk.
Watched the first half of the vikes game in my buddy’s pool/hot tub before heading to airport. Was fun but was a total tease from a golf perspective.
The full course for Bear Creek is actually not bad. Pretty good value for that area even though it’s nothing special. Didn’t really miss out on many interesting holes however. My pops wanted to go play Poston Butte over Southern Dunes because Poston had an “island green”. He’s not very woke. I had to tell him to trust me when I booked SD instead of Poston Butte.
Am headed to Phx in two weeks…really wanted to play SD at the recommendation of other refugees but my buddy coming down took the stance of “any course is fine as long as under $80”. Needless to say, not playing SD or anything else worth mentioning.
However…still get to play some golf in some sunshine which is what it’s about, anyway.
Ha! The island green was kind of fun, also didn’t hurt that I’ve seen no less than a million Players commercials the last couple of weeks. I think I saw my buddy’s soul leave his body after taking 5 swings to get out of the bunker on 17. Poston was a perfectly fine course, and also seemed fairly walkable which was impressive given the housing development nature of the course. Was kind of funny seeing all of the locals and their decked out custom carts all lined up at the range.
I enjoyed the short course at the Bear as well. It’s the kind of thing I would play every morning before work if I lived next door.
Unfortunately my buddy who lives down there just accepted a job offer and is relocating to Kansas City.
Monday through Thursday Southern Dunes is like $80-$90 for the first couple of tee times. Or at least it was last week.
Got in at 9:45 on Friday morning and immediately went to play 18 at Southern Dunes. Absolutely love that course. Played 36 at Las Sendas yesterday, with another 18 at Toka Sticks today. Just finished that round and it was a nice change of pace from desert golf.
Going to go play bean bags in the pool this afternoon and watch the games. Tonto Verde courses tomorrow and Tuesday before flying back. Sure is exhausting down here…jealous yet @Battisstatus?

That trip sounds unreal. I’m heading down to AZ the first week in April for a family trip. Hoping to get out a couple times while we are there.
A colleague of mine goes to Tonto Verde every time they are in AZ, she has nothing but great things to say about it. I hope you have a blast!
See, now that’s a golf trip!
Jocelyn, working the bev cart at SD was also a delight, and helped tremendously in getting my friends to stick around for another 18.
Use TeeOff. There’s a 25% off promo code right now and it’s 96 bucks to play there tomorrow. That comes out to around 72. Don’t know what the prices are like in two weeks but I think you could get it under 80. Maybe 85.
tell him the carts are really soft and comfy
Anyone got a link to this “SD”? I’m curious.
Thanks.
