Here you go. https://www.akchinsoutherndunes.com/
Quite a drive but a damn fine course.
If you have time to make the drive I think SD is about the best value in the area. There are approximately 90,000 bunkers on the course, but just embrace the fact that it’s a different challenge than we normally see up here.
We had a bet on how many could avoid going bunker to bunker over 36 holes. Nobody won.
Agreed, if you go to Phoenix and skip Southern Dunes (especially if you’ve never played it before) you should be executed. It’s not that far of a drive, people drive to Wickenburg and Quintero all the time which are farther from Phoenix/Scottsdale.
Execution seems like an unusually harsh ruling but I’ll accept whatever my fellow Refugees decide is appropriate.
I will say that the few available tee times are running $160-$190 the weekend I’m down there. So that’s a very hard sell to my less woke golfing companions.
May have been a bit of hyperbole ![]()
Crazy, the prices must be going up, I think $125 was the rack rate last year on the weekend. They do have dynamic pricing though so it could get cheaper as your trip approaches.
I can’t say enough good things about Southern Dunes! I was down there mid December and we played WeKoPa (Saguaro), Quintero, Grayhawk (Raptor) and 36 at Southern Dunes.
Curious if anyone has played the Mini Dunes short course they built on the driving range at SD? While it certainly wouldn’t work at every course it seems like a no brainer for courses that are space constrained to build something like this. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to play it, but the starter said it gets very little use.

to be honest the range didn’t look anything as green as that picture looks when I was there. Would probably still be a good time though
To be fair - they use dynamic pricing + the weekend I’m down is the weekend of the WMO (unintentional coincidence). This is definitely more of a “Strapped” style trip than it is “Tourist Sauce”…
@kirkeide1 gave the insider tip on TeeOff.com ---- nothing matching our schedule just yet but will continue to monitor in case something pops up that we can work with (and fits the budget).
New to the crew here. Long time listener, first time caller. Just want to connect with the other Minnesota people in case anyone wants to get some games together this summer. I live in Western burbs on Minneapolis. Cheers, Sully
Welcome. I am downtown mpls so would love to connect. Any favorite courses you visit regularly?
Welcome, I’m sure you’ll find many people to play with on here, we set up games in here frequently during the season. Where do you usually play?
I am also in the Western burbs.
The West Nest is the Best
I prefer to stay in the action downtown
To each their own! I like a good change of pace every now and then too.
Played down there late last spring. Easily one of the best courses in the area. There’s a ton of room on the other side of those center bunkers if I recall correctly. I also know if you catch it thicc and drop it in front of those bunkers, you’re basically aiming at mountain top, because that’s all you can see. May or may not be first hand experience, who can say.
Thanks for the warm welcome @Taylorda and @munihack7. I live in Minnetonka. I like to play at Chaska Town Course, Baker or down at Legends. Usually make the pilgrimage to the Jewel once a summer on a Friday when I don’t want to work. Also, never afraid of a four club challenge and Brookview or Glen Lake. Looking forward to checking out the re-done Braemar. Also tend to catch a few games a summer at either Town and Country, Mendakota or Sommerset through friends.
This sounds awesome, I am very close to Glen Lake.
Welcome, while I have nothing to add for the metro area, I can help if you ever make it up north, since @munihack7 named me president of the Iron Range division of the MN contingent.
