Don’t forget the Amtrak stop
If anyone is getting the itch to see or hit some of the new clubs coming out, Golf Galaxy in Woodbury had new Taylormade, Callaway and Cobra woods in the demo area.
What’s everyone’s favorite simulator in the metro? Went to X-Golf for the first time and wasn’t impressed for the course. The trackman ones are Olympic Hills are the best in my opinion.
Not sure. I am cheap so my $100 membership at PGASS is where I go. I don’t trust the numbers and I don’t try to play the courses.
You new to the contingent or have I missed your posts? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I recently went to Element Indoor Golf Club in Vadnais Heights and was very impressed! The tech in each simulator is pretty amazing. The platform rises and angles you up or down depending on your lie. Each sim also has different turf for various lies whether you are in the rough or sand. They have a very large chipping/putting green for practice as well
We’re lucky at Olympic. Occasionally you’ll get a weird, low spin shot that just goes forever, but for the most part, the Trackmans are so accurate.
Is Inside Edge updated at all? I remember I went there back in my PCC days and it was a little beaten up.
Ernie Rose Golf in Eden Prairie has 3 or 4 trackman sims and is roughly the same price as Inside Edge. After playing on Trackman sims, I won’t go back to Inside Edge.
I’m actually headed to Ernie Rose golf this weekend. Never been, but the price isn’t bad for a Trackman. It was mentioned above, but the new Toptracer at Braemar is pretty sweet. The price didn’t go up at all, and if you go on a weekday it is $11 for roughly 80 balls. Toptracer isn’t nearly as precise as Trackman, but for $11 its pretty damn good.
Second or third post. Just trying to survive another Winter. The itch for golf has gotten bad.
I think we can all relate to that.
How long have you been a member there? My buddy was the assistant pro there for a few years. His name was Erik. Now he is in Arizona.
+1 for element.
Just since Oct 2018. They brought in a new group of assistants around that time.
I think this may be the most fun tournament to watch the scoreboard from day to day. Sandbagger central! First year some guy that had a incredibly high handi opened with a low score and then scaled back on the final 18. Perhaps it was full Icarito, but his handicap had to have gone down dramatically after.
Some guys will do anything to get their name in the MGA magazine for championships.
I always get a kick out of sandbagging. I would LOVE for my handicap to be lower and am frustrated when I can’t get it to budge.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on the new handicap system? Anyone know much about it outside of the what’s been talked about on the NLU pod.
Yeah, I guess I only really care about vanity/sandbagging when it’s either 1) someone just trying to get into a qualifier with a handicap that in no way reflects there game, turning a 4 hour round into 5-6 and 2) when big money is on the line (member guests, etc.). For the MGA net championship, I just consider that the sandbagger invitational, who can outdo each others lack of morals and still keep enough dignity so that when you’re family sees your name in the magazine/online, you can sleep well. But seriously, I haven’t gone back and looked, but I think the returning winner from 2018 also was in the mix for the 2019… which to me just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Shouldn’t there be extreme parity in that tourney? Or is it all about having less jitters while still being a hack?
that being said, I did turn in a somewhat illegimite score (we were playing in a best ball tournament and i raked a couple 4-6 footers since my partner had the hole won) to get into the USGA am qualifier at your course @LonnieMollo; moved from a 1.8 to a 1.2 and proceeded to get beasted on by a couple of out of town sticks and GTFO of that tourney after 18. Great course though, if I lived closer would highly consider joining (especially with your new practice facilities).
Biggest thing to me is the 8 score avg and the daily resets… speaking of which, I wonder if they’ll reset people’s handicaps after day 1 of the net champ? I guess you play just good enough to not effect your handicap to much on day 1 and then just drop a net 57 on day 2.
I’m guessing a net tournament will keep whatever handi they start with if it’s a two day event. I think the daily changes will be okay because very rarely does one score drop you a ton of shots. Will be interesting to see what happens either way.
