New update to Winnetka Golf Course, looks good! I wish they would remove more dense shade/ shade trees and open up the course more, like SV.

Canal Shores new holes configuration up by bahai temple are grassing in too!

Didn’t they redesign just the first 3 holes at Winnetka a few years ago as a “test” ?
And now they’re just finishing that project?

1 was a redesign??

Pine Meadow tomorrow morning - 7:14 anyone?

I’m not sure, I think the major driver was increasing stormwater compacity for the village.
They are also redoing the little par 3 course there as well.

Idk, I’m not too confident that it will make the course noticeably better. The primary purpose of the project was to add drainage to help with stormwater flooding in the area. They’ve added a big pond left of 18 and retention ponds on the par 3 course. Aside from conditioning, the course was too tight. Trees, OB, and water. From what I can tell, they’re not removing trees and adding water on 18. Hopefully, with better drainage it will improve conditioning. Like the 4th fairway won’t be like walking on a waterbed. But any hopes for a SV or Schaumburg like renovation are misplaced.

Heritage Oaks did a similar drainage, re-grassing project, but Heritage Oaks isn’t built on a swamp.
I’m used to the hope/disappointment cycle, I’m a Cubs fan.

Glencoe is also going to build a new clubhouse and flip the 9’s.
Talk about a place that needs a chainsaw.

For all the Discord-avoiders: I’m doing the IJGA Golf Marathon next Friday. I think it’s me and @BadBrad? If you’re free, not too late to join.

If you want to support the cause: Support Andrew Falconer - Golf Marathon | PledgeIt for Charities

Or suggest a prop bet, etc. Let us know! It’s for the kids!

I added myself to the program finally and will be open to challenge (within reason) if you want me to play a hole left handed or with only a putter for a hole ect.

Also adding if you are a refugee donating I will pool names of donations to either @andrewf/@BadBrad or the marathon general group and give away a new IJGA Towel and Tees to one winner. (Just let me know via Dm here or on discord)

Thanks!

Edit: the IJGA is a 501c3 organization and most corporate match programs recognize. If you would like to use that process please note in the donation that it is for the golf marathon

Following up on this-
War at The Shores is the same day and I wanted to see what level interest there still is. We would have to book the tee times ourselves 7 days out.

  • I’m still interested
  • Dense/butthurt
  • I’m willing to help reserve a tee time

Congratulations my fellow beautiful people

Hey! Out of the blue post, but I just moved here to Chicago from Phoenix - living next to Jackson Park and working in the south 'burbs in Homewood. Eager to play golf for under $75/round here - Phoenix has some of the most obscenely expensive courses I’ve ever seen.

Would love to get involved in a golfing community here - Roost seems like a good place to start. I’d love to learn what the Roost around here is up to, or otherwise where there’s active local leagues joining. Value course recommendations also welcome.

Cheers.

Jump on in! Start in the new here/intro section as well. Welcome aboard!

We also have an event on 10/29 - War at the Shores (Check the event page on the refuge!)

Welcome! Living next to Jackson Park sounds pretty awesome, I like playing there, and if you can get out at non peak times it’s easy to play in well under 3 hours.

Da Rap Around Season is currently looking for a sub to come in and fill a spot in Pool 7. You would just need to schedule 1 match each with @golfscout and @Xlink before winter. Top two points getters from your pool advance to a 16 person single elimination match play bracket in the spring.

It’s just for fun, and an excuse to play matches with other Roost members (and Pool 7 has some stars). However, if we successfully complete pool play before Winter I will be procuring a Belt of some kind as a trophy for this thing. Here’s the thread for it, just throw your info in the spreadsheet if you want to join.

This looks extremely fun. I’ll plan on making this. Sounds like a good way to meet some folks.

Is Pool 7 still looking for a sub? Thoughts on courses that are reasonable but enjoyable for matches? (wallet is a-hurtin’ a bit from moving across the country and figuring out housing in the city - need some places that are in the low range for $$$)

Pool 4 is. Our 3rd has been MIA and the other 2 of us already played a match.
