Heritage Oaks does this right. I was there a couple months ago and the putting green and chipping area was full of kids practicing and competing against each other. It was awesome to see. No pay to play.
Likely flying into Chicago for work on sun Oct 1. First timer where should I play? Make the trip to Erin Hills or stay local?
Ohare to Erin is less than 2 hours. Do it. Played up there last October and it was lovely. My only regret was overdressing by going with pants.
I played it 9/28 in 2020 and the Fall colors were superb. Did get drenched in a cold rain for like 40% of the round so don’t remember a ton in the middle, but that is a good time to go. It’s a lot of money, but certainly way way better than any public options in Chicago.
We usually do it a little later in the year, but gauging interest so Cap can block off tee times.
The game is 4ball amongst tee times, $5 Nassau for front, back, and total. Tradition is to bring a craft beer to share, however all col’ beers are welcome
- I would play
- I would play, but want a different format
- Dense/butthurt, Steve
I planned a little outing with friends at Mistwood, Sunday at 1240. For 3 spots open if anyone is interested in joining
Ohhhhhhhh really?
“On the golf side of the resort campus, Bloomingdale leaders and golf course architect Dave Esler are finalizing plans to overhaul the traditional 27-hole layout into a new 18-hole course, a nine-hole par-3 course with golf academy holes and a driving range separating the two.”
If Dave Esler sounds familiar, he’s the one that renovated Ravisloe, Twin Orchard, Glen View Club, and MPCC, and built Black Sheep
Indian Lakes was the site of my first round of golf in the Chicago area
Esler also did bunker/green renovations at Elgin CC and consulted with Doakito for bunker renovations at Barrington Hills CC (this is alleged, I’m friends with his son and he told me this if I’m remembering correctly)
I played with Dave and his son at Wynstone a couple years ago. Nice kid. Dave never shuts up, though.
“So let me tell you why the 17th at Mount Prospect is the best hole I’ve designed.”
I think he won the first two club championships at Black Sheep. It’s written on the ceiling of the bar.
Already posted this in SCGC Classifieds, but have some stuff for sale on that other site, local refuge members are preferred and I will work on price if you’re interested in anything:
Does the home game model explode when you play at a course you built?
Haha yes, my dad played junior golf with Dave and his brother Mark…he always told me he was a yapper.
Ladies and Gentlemen. We’re back.
Cross-posting from the de facto Central IL thread just in case anybody wants to make a trip down. We’re looking at the 8th, somewhere around 9:30-10 and we have 1 spot open.
Bump on the Kicked in the Teeth Open. Going to call and cancel extra tee times later this week. Come on down to Peoria for some fall golf.
What’s the date?
Sunday, October 15th.
