Where did you play this week? (Part 2)

Had never played Scioto prior to the renovation but it was fantastic. Loved the par 3s and par 5s.

Checked my first strapped course off the list… starter said they lost the greens two months ago and had 7 temp greens. Most of the greens were 50% sand but the course was still fun enough to earn a promise to be back one day when I can give it a real go.

Doesn’t get more strapped than 7 temp greens!

Extremely lucky to play the fairly newly renovated Lake Merced Golf Club earlier this week, and gotta say I was blown away. Gil Hanse did an incredible job and the course needs to skyrocket in the rankings. #13 is one of the coolest par 3’s of played and truly is a beautiful view from the tee.

My wife had tickets to Tswift in Stockholm. So I tagged along and spent the day at Bro Hof Slott.

Played both courses. Absolutely loved the Castle Course. Stadium was hard for sake of hard as advertised in TS.

These pics are from the Castle Course since you can see the stadium course on TS

Lunchtime nine at what might be Donald Ross’ only course on a military base. Built 2 years before his death, the old heads say it was originally the enlisted course. Currently being discussed and a location for a new high school. Includes a beefy 600+ yrs par five that I was more than happy to par from the tips. The round went down hill from there.

How did the temp 8th hole green work out? Right miss is death.

Sent it deep to left… didn’t want anything to do with right.

Still trying to process what was an incredible couple of days on Long Island. So good!

Never heard of it but a windmill in the middle of the course seems to be a little too Mickey Mouse for my taste. YMMV.

Maybe from the standpoint of it being the happiest place on Earth

In Arnie’s defense (he designed the Bay course) that’s not the original 18th hole, it’s the 6th. Apparently they changed the routing when they moved the pro shop over to the new practice area.

The original 18th hole is the 12th now. The down hill par 5 that ends up by the old club house, the current snack bar where you drive under the building.

I found the layout so confusing after I played there that I did some googling and talked to my father in law who played there years ago. Apparently the old club house is the current tennis facility and they had an iron only driving range back there too. That said I think it works better to have the ocean holes as 16 and 17 instead of 4 and 5.

Edit: grammar

That’s super interesting! Yeah if I had to pick the ocean holes as 16/17 or 4/5 I think I’d have to agree and leave them as 16/17 but my goodness they could certainly do something to spice up 18. Just an awful finishing hole

Nothing ruins a golf experience like a bad 18th hole.

Should be a requirement to either have

A) a view
B) a reachable in 2 5 with some risk reward

This just in, 18 at Sawgrass blows.

Hardest par 4 being the 18th hole is my personal favourite. One course I play frequently has 3 of the 4 hardest holes 16-18 and it’s awesome.
