Where did you play this week? (Part 2)

Committee has huddled up and we will allow this entry.

I think ours is the 4th hardest hole, but it’s a an absolute monster and if the wind is up, it plays as a par 4 and a half.

Got out for an early dew sweeper round at Grey Hawk in LaGrange. In fantastic shape right now!

One good/bad thing about this is folks are getting strokes on the last few holes in net play. Depends on if you’re giving or getting the strokes if you think it’s good or bad, haha.

Dewswept today at Empire Ranch Golf Club, just down the road from Folsom Prison (shoutout Johnny Cash) with my dudes @k-yan and @Jrod. Course #228 for yours truly. Fun little layout set amongst the McMansions.

Glad to see it is back in good shape. A few years ago the old owners really let it go.

Trip from Minnesota to Nebraska with my wife. I’m 60 and a 20. She’s 56 and a 29. We don’t hit it very far.
Started at Frederick Peak in Valentine. 10 holes. Incredible ground. Course was in great shape. Amazing elevation changes in the “canyons” starting on the 5th hole. Liked it so much we played it again the next day. Would play again. Could play every day, even with only 10 holes.
Next was Wild Horse. Maybe the best turf I’ve ever experienced on a public course (or any course). Firm and fast. Greens rolled out very fast. Thoughtful design. Paired with a couple of great guys which really added to the vibe. Great pro shop and merch. Easily one of the most enjoyable days of golf we’ve ever had. Would play every day.
Ended at Landmand. Big views. Big fairways. Big greens. Slower greens than Wild Horse, necessary because of the extremes in the putting surfaces. Turf in the fairways very tight as the grass not quite as mature as Wild Horse. Wind 25 to 40 mph. Too much for us. Too much for the single digit big bombers were paired with. Eventually catches up with you. I had the only birdie of the day which was nice. This would not be a daily player for me. Would go back for sure, maybe with a buddy and play match play, not stroke play. Can’t describe the beauty and solitude of the place.

Little delayed - booked my brother Bachelor trip to Forest Dunes and Arcadia Bluffs.

Truth be told, was a bit distracted to take pictures.

I played at Menlo Country Club a few days back. It is a fantastic course that is really under the radar. I didn’t know it existed until a friend invited me in 2021.

Kyle Philips completely redid the course in 2014 and it has an unbelievable routing. It is one of those courses where, after the first time I played it, I could retrace every hole. The front nine makes its way around the edge of the property, while the back nine plays inside the front nine, similar to Muirfield. It is a modern course with a very golden-age feel, something you rarely see. Wide corridors of the tee, including shared fairways on six or seven holes, cool bunkering, center line trees, and short par 4s and 3s with diabolical greens.

The club keeps a low profile and, as a result, doesn’t appear in many course rankings/ratings. However, it is a hidden gem, and if you get the chance, I highly recommend playing it. Anytime I am fortunate enough to get an invite, I always say yes

Presidio GC in SF. Perfect day for it with my dudes @AirmanA3 and @no3puttsplz91. Hadn’t been here in like a decade and had forgotten how much fun it is. Made the turn in 3 under and then got a little loose on the back for an even par 72.

Got to see Omni LaCosta North (championship) this week.

Was officially the first “guest” and commemorated with a ball mark they gave me.

Place was fiiiiirm. Watching the NCAA national championship semi-finals and finals, then getting to play it was sweet.

Course is very hard in its current firm conditions - especially as we had a windy day but it was fun to see.

Shoutout @Cody and Cam Young. Seeing where Cody’s drive was and Young hitting that 2 wood is wildly impressive.

Played one of my favorite Florida courses Bella Collina today with @dshaddy, @mbianchi and @bogeytax. Greens were a bit firm but I still found 17/18 of them and shot a personal best 69. Only made better by the finest beverage known to man, canned Gatorade.

I’ll always have a soft spot for canned Gatorade. When I was in the pediatric icu as a young teen it was all I consumed voluntarily for about a week because I couldn’t/wouldn’t eat. First and only time ever seeing it.

TLDR: canned Gatorade saved my life*
