Don’t know the HCC covered such a large area

Why the hate on Torrey? Planning on getting out there later this year for first time. Interested to hear why you don’t like it.

Fun fact I used to drink in Bermans hot tub in high school when he was out of town

Just seems like a boring golf course. #3 is the only hole that I find somewhat interesting. That being said, I’m within driving distance from Bandon, so I’m kind of spoiled with coastline golf. Totally understand why some people like it and/or want to play Torrey.

As a local and the resident torrey pines apologist -

Torrey South is very repetitive in it’s design. Narrow fairway, fairway bunkers on both sides, elevated green with deep bunkers. Repeat x14. The par threes are pretty awesome though, no debate about that.

Torrey North is where it’s at. If you give me 10 rounds at Torrey I’m playing the north course 10 times and the south course 0. Significantly more land movement, better shot variety, better use of the cliffs as a hazard, more interesting greens, way less penal fairways and bunkers.

When you come visit, please give north a chance

How much of a headache is it trying to get times out there? I haven’t looked at much lately but I remember for a non resident it looked like a mess

I would absolutely play Torrey North again. I had played it once many, many years ago and didn’t have a lot of memories of it. But was really properly charmed, especially by the back nine.

Have never been a big South fan, but went in with an open mind. I went to the 08 Open there, lots of memories, just decided to embrace it, have fun, enjoy the experience … Gotta tell you, I fucking hated that golf course.

Spot on here, it was very underwhelming.

Oh, cool - here’s the ocean for 2 holes and then 16 of the most non-descript shit you’ll find. All to be enjoyed over a near SIX hour round.

Fuck that place.

I like 13 a ton too. Great view from the tips. 4 could be sooo much better that it almost makes what is a pretty cool hole, somehow disappointing.

But you could blindfold me and drop me on to most any par 4 there and I would have to guess which hole I’m on.

If you haven’t been back in a long time - north was reno’ed by Tom Weiskopf in 2016. Huge redesign. Increased green sizes, took out bunkers and trees, made it generally easier to play, more interesting and visually striking. They also reduced water usage by 90%.

It’s my favorite course in the world. Highly recommend.

South beats my ass over and over again. Do not recommend.

Yeah, my first trip was … 02 I think? Most recent trip around was just two years ago. A world of difference.

First rounds in Vancouver post relocation. Excited to explore the whole scene with @sarah and others!

First up was University Golf Club on a beautiful spring day

And an excellent bench on 16 tee @Randy would enjoy

Overall, I was impressed. It reminded me quite a bit of Harding Park. Very playable and enjoyable.
