Where did you play this week? (Part 2)

Took YOTB to the next logical level. 2 years ago I played in a Hickory event, and got my face mashed in by my inability to find the face of a club

@Ghost_of_Ty_Webb was able to source me a set of Tommy Armors a little over a year ago now.

Today, having played with the blades for a year, returned to the Hickory scene at Meadow Park in Tacoma, and snagged Net-1st-place in the “Open” division
(other divisions were senior, super senior, and ladies)

sidenote: I played with some rentals today (Shout out to Meadow Park for having Hickory Rentals) and it was a lot of fun, but I am absolutely eying acquiring my own set and playing with them at some of the older courses in the area that are around or under the 5000 yard mark. (looking at you Foster Golf Links)

Honeymoon treat from the wife, a round at Mayakoba. Will report back with more pictures. Goal today from the back tees is to shoot 77 or better solely so I can say I beat 1/3 of the field in a single LIV round :joy:

Finished up my 3 course tour on Maui.

Plantation course for the second time couldn’t live up to the magic of my first trip. But still awesome.

Bay course was in great shape but a let down from design standpoint. ( I was afraid of that)

Kaanapali Royal was a pleasant surprise since I went into it with low expectations. Enjoyed it a lot and at the super twilight round I played in like 2.5 hours and was great value for the $

The only thing they had in common was I putted like dog shit on Bermuda. So I had that going for me.

16 at the Kapalua bay course

Kapalua Plantation course

1 green at Kaanapali Royal

The 18th hole might be the shittiest finishing hole on a $300 golf course in the world

Edit I for some reason thought we were talking kaanapali.

AP would like a word.
Arnold Palmer called the 18th hole (par 4) one of the best and most challenging finishing holes he’d ever played. The 449-yard hole plays longer than it looks, hugging the brackish water canal the entire length of the fairway and green, making it a memorable last hole.

I actually loved it other than my 3 putt. Hit the best drive of the day right over the bunker. Hit a 9 iron to 10’ to the front pin just on over the water (which I never hesitated because I played like ass all day so yolo) then 3 putted for bogey. It was not fun but I liked the hole.

Also. I want to replay it, but won’t pay prime rates for it. Another $120 twilight round is just right

Are we talking about the same course? 18 on Bay is a 500 yard par 5 with a net all the way down the left side.

I’m stupid I thought you said kaanapali….

18 at bay course is one of the worst holes I’ve played ANYWHERE

I got excited for a second because I haven’t played it since Jan 2023 so I thought they might have changed it.

But it truly stinks and it following 16 and 17 with the ocean in play is truly jarring.

I remember 5 holes really. I liked the first as an opening hole. 10? With the split fairway. Really liked 16,17 and hated 18. Everything else was whatever

it might be a tie with 18 at sheep ranch. almost identical?

18 at Sheep would be fine if it was a par 4 or 100 yards longer. I think the net is what really bothers me and that dumb banquet area behind the super boring green

18 at Bay is miles worse than 18 at Sheep, IMO

It couldn’t be more boring. It’s awful. The most AP hole AP ever designed

We don’t like centerline bunkers now?

This is one of my favorite threads but am I the only that wishes everyone would post the course name with photos? Sorry, but I’m not well traveled enough to know all the courses by a picture.

I believe this is Torrey Pines.

I think this one is National Golf Links of America.

Thanks

Although your point still stands on a macro level. Maybe we need some Silk Road style rules here?!?!
