Doesn’t concern me lol
Honestly, as a golf course – and I think this is prob going to be a controversial opinion – but Lookout Mountain (post reno) > The Tree Farm
There is a draft new rule out there on the Refuge that only people who’ve played a course can say which one is better, so opinions of The Tree Farm may be slow in coming
Took the most enjoyable loss of my golfing career yesterday to my better half who is now a confirmed mudder. She beat me 2&1 in 38° and rainy conditions, her first time playing in anything like that, and broke 100 for her 3rd time. The second nine the rain let up and ended up being a gorgeous day for Colorado in February
Lookout mountain is climbing my list of courses I most want to play.
Lookout and The Tree Farm?
I need better friends
Visited the South Carolina Lowcountry for the first time. Some really fun golf, great food, and warm Southern hospitality.
Charleston Municipal, Troy Miller 2020
Yeamans Hall Club, Seth Raynor 1925
Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, Pete Dye 1991
Country Club of Charleston, Seth Raynor 1925
Colleton River Club, Pete Dye 1998
Chechessee Creek Club, Coore & Crenshaw 2000
That’s as good as you can down there. Looks like a great trip!
Northern NM has had a relatively wet winter so I took advantage of some warm weather and played Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe. The greens were incredibly stressed last winter - they don’t water during the winter due to consistent sub-freezing overnight lows - but they were healthy and green and smooth, albeit pretty slow, today. The rest of the grounds were lush and very firm. It was a great day.
The #3-7 stretch is really fun golf and the best sustained scoring opportunity. The course’s best green complexes are almost all in this group of holes.
#3, 550 yards
(Brag time: hit a good drive and a bullet 3i that ran 50-60 yards to the back edge to set up a bird)
#4, 200 yards
Classic longish downhill par 3 with everything sloping to the left hazard. My ball, a yellow Maxfli in case you haven’t heard, is tastefully pin high on the right fringe.
#5, 360 yards
Approach is to a beautifully framed green protected by a huge bunker right and hidden fall offs left and long.
#6, 340 yards
Risk/reward par four: had a 260 carry over the left fairway bunker with an easy route to the green if you pull it off. I didn’t take it on today.
#7, 145 yards
Short par three with some G-rated Short template vibes and a gorgeous backdrop of the Santa Fe mountains.
(Brag time #2: this looked like it might go in. Settled for a 2.)
Winter is always my favorite golf season here, especially when there has been some decent precipitation (iffy) and the daily forecast cooperates (it usually does). I played this stretch in 2 under but made three annoying doubles to shoot one over my course handicap on the day (78). I really need to commit to playing the tips next time because even though I hit just two drivers on the par fours, it was still a wedge fest. The jump is 500 yards but it’s time to give it a shot.
Still mad the Strapped Boys didn’t play here.
I love the way this green site looks.
Didn’t get around to posting these until now, but just got back from Streamsong last week. Played all three courses, the 13 holes that are currently open at The Chain and was able to get onto The Concession as well. Streamsong was everything I hoped for and more. Really loved how they were able to get three courses on the same general property that all feel different. The chain is definitely a lot more than just a part three course in comparison to some of the others I have played. Some very difficult holes out there and supposedly the six that are not open yet or even better. Always a lot of discussion at resorts regarding which course you like the best but I would love to play each one again. I guess I would say red after one go around if I was forced to choose.
Concession was a grind, I can see why they host professional events there. Generous Fairways, but every single approach shot looks like you have an about a 3 foot window to land the ball. Not the best setup for a 12 handicap lol.
Planning a trip to streamsong in May. Thanks for the info!
Yep! Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions. The resort is really nice. Great amenities and I felt the food was really solid and fairly priced being that you were on a golf resort. All I heard about before I went was how it’s in the middle of nowhere, so there isn’t anything to do outside of the resort and this couldn’t be more true. You don’t see anything the final 30 miles before the resort just pops up out of nowhere.
Not sure about the physical abilities of your group, but we walked all three rounds. I caddie on the side so I prefer to walk when possible. All of the courses were easy walks with a caddie. Blue course definitely had some more up-and-down than the other two. Black was the longest walk, but probably the easiest as far as being flat.
In pretty good shape for old fat golfers so We plan to walk as well. Only playing one round a day with the short course/putting course in the evenings. Looking forward to it!
We did 36 a day at Pinehurst last year and it was a lot of golf….4, 2, 7, 8, 9, and Tobacco Road. Freaking great trip though!!!
God damn, what a lineup! Haven’t played 2 or 4 but played the others. I agree. Anymore than one day of 36 real holes I’m sorta over it. We didn’t do any at Streamsong. The short courses and the putting are perfect.
2 and 4 were awesome, both are pretty easy walks, had a really good caddie and it makes all the difference. You can turn a 10 foot putt into a 20 foot putt really quick out there.
Was lucky to play some NorCal courses last week
Course: Half Moon Bay Ocean Course in Half Moon Bay, CA
Layout: 10/10
Course Condities: 6/10 - Cart path only and very wet. I think I lost at least 3 golf balls that plugged in the fairways. Greens in good shape though and very receptive since soft

Course: Corica South Course in Alameda, CA
Layout: 10/10
Course Condities: 9/10 - Walked with cart and course drains well. The ball was actually bouncing and rolling as compared to 2 days prior at Half Moon Bay Ocean Course. Greens were rolling fantastic and a lot of undulations.
—————————————
I know I rated the layouts 10/10 for both courses but I love me some Cali golf. I walked off both courses wanting to tee it up again so that gets a 10/10 in my book
I also realize we lucked out last week with a few days of good weather but can’t wait to go back again
Glad you got a bouncy Corica! I played it a month ago or so and it was very wet. Would love to play it when it’s firmer. It’s such a fun design. NorCal golf is so good.
Hideaway in La Quinta. Just gorgeous. Hard to picture what this will look like after their $50m renovation this year.
Recently spent a few days at Mountain Lake and was fortunate enough to play six rounds. The course is anything but your stereotypical “Florida golf” - elevation changes, minimal water hazards and neat template holes which makes for an extremely fun and playable golf course. I only snapped one picture - the par three 11th Redan hole.
