Where did you play this week? (Part 2)

Slapped it around with @jknudtson at We-Ko-Pa (Saguaro) this morning. Always a pleasure to get over there and the AZ resident rate makes it a great deal this time of year. Only in the low 90°s when we finished as well. For late June, we like that!

Got to take my first ever brand new set of irons(always previously bought used) out for a spin today. Sub 70 639cb in black. Played A.L. Gustin Golf Course on the Mizzou campus and had a decent ball striking day but couldn’t make any putts. 84 with 3 doubles and 2 3 putts was less than ideal. Didn’t take any pics on the course but here’s the new toys

Have you recovered? I’ve got a buddy who was in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago and suffered heat stroke. He’s still not 100%.

Played Spring in Gordonsville,VA. Course is pure and lives up to all the praises.

Was back in Wisconsin for work this week and got over to Sand Valley for 36 holes today. Third time there and I enjoy it more every time I go. First round at Mammoth this morning I ended up breaking par for the 1st time. Was on a heater on the back 9 and made 3 birdies. Had 3 more looks on the same 9 under 10’ I couldn’t convert on, 2 3 putt bogey’s, a 3 putt par, and bogey’d the easiest hole on that course in my opinion. But I finally did it.

Round 2 at Sand Valley was an enjoyable walk. No one had teed off for an hour before me, and there was no one on the tee sheet for an hour after. Felt like I had the place to myself. I was still playing well, but ran out of gas. Made some sloppy mistakes, and putter went ice cold. Came out to an 80.

As everyone knows the taco’s are amazing, and that snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich was amazing cooling down on the Adirondacks after 36. Need to get back in a year and play Sedge and The Lido.

It’s even better: he left out the Whiskey part of the Whiskey Snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich

Did you play today, and if so, why was no one out there?

Interesting.

The forecast called for 70-80% chance of thunderstorms for the whole day for about the past week. Assuming that scared a lot of people off. Felt a couple rain drops, but other than that everything luckily missed.

Wow. Depending on your weather source (weather channel is easily among the most pessimistic, WeatherBug among the more optimistic), I can see how it might say that. Plus a lot of people don’t realize that the thunderstorms are probably in the evening when it gets cooler, and daytimes are often fine.

Good for you!

Just interesting to read after they’ve been booking 2024 times for months now.

I don’t check the different apps often, but did notice that. Saturday night Weather Channel had 70% chance all day. In the morning it changed to starting at about 11. Half way through my round at Mammoth it was overcast, but didn’t really look like rain. Went to WeatherBug and just had mostly cloudy all day. Glad the Bug turned out to be correct.

Was also nice with the weather in the area the temps were 10-15 degrees cooler than the day before. I really lucked out.

I prefer the Bug. It seems like the most accurate one. I understand predicting bad weather more often so people are prepared but if you don’t take an umbrella for a 40% chance… that’s on you. I’d take an umbrella for a 20% chance for the same reasons I don’t play Russian Roulette (I’m not comparing getting rained on to never having to worry about the weather ever again, just the logic of odds).

I did recover well. Played this past weekend after not getting out of bed for 5 days and shot the house but besides that body is back to normal. Driver is just in the trees!

I’m glad to see this place is still up and running, Gosh its been 25 years since I have played there.

Finally knocked Pete Dye Club in Bridgeport, WV off my list. What an absolute gem

Was lucky enough to make the trip out to Oakmont Country Club this past week. Such an unbelievable opportunity to be at one of golf’s finest tests, as well as seeing all the history that makes it such a special place. The course was under renovation at the time, another property Gil Hanse is getting his hands on! @Plod123 was able to make the trip with me as well. Memories that will last a lifetime! Took way too many pictures, but a couple of my favorites are shown below.

Got out to my home track Saturday for the first time since massive storms blew the Tulsa last Saturday with 100mph winds. Luckily, most of the damage was on the outskirts of the course and my track took very little damage compared to some of the other courses around Tulsa.

First trip to Bandon. Wife and I were in Oregon for vacation and got lucky when a room opened up for 2 night.

Played Sheep on Tues pm with very little wind and loved it.

Played Old Mac Wed morning with a caddie and hit it well, but had a few bad holes. Pac Dunes that afternoon with 20 mph sustained wind and up to 35 mph gusts. Very very challenging lol

Trails on Thursday am paired with 3 ladies from Seattle and their two caddies. Absolutely LOVED it. An absolute golf cathedral. The highlight of the trip was sticking it to 3 feet on 5 with the front pin for a birdie.

Finished with a solo round that afternoon at Bandon Dunes. Loved the holes, but it was still 10-15 mph sustained and my putter was balky.

Obligatory rankings

  1. Trails (by farrrrr)
  2. Old Mac (I got the Big Randy vibe)
  3. Bandon Dunes (every hole was solid)
  4. Sheep (with little wind this is a blast)
  5. Pac Dunes (just too damn

True bucket list track for me. Do you have a full write up?
