Trap Draw: The Kingdom

Welcome to the Refuge!

I just noticed that westy has a male caddy this week. Was his gf not on the bag last week either? Is this due to the KSA government’s view on women’s rights? I’m always impressed when I see a woman looper. My wife would laugh if I asked her to carry my bag.

Looks like his gf in only on a one week hiatus from caddying, which is totally understandable.

Apologies if this has been addressed previously, but @Randy are you truly a Kings fan and if so is that a callback to the Cincinnati Royals. If so I absolutely love it. Growing up an LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, St. Louis Rams fan I have the utmost respect for stubborn and completely irrational sports fandom.

So the guest, Cody? The stuff that he dances around and his anonymity - he’s seen some shit…

I’m watching the Waste Management and I was thinking about the line in this pod that “If you like overpriced target golf then Scottsdale is for you”.

If you were going to do a Strapped: Valley of the Sun and go balling on a budget, what 4 courses would you pick?

I was today years old when I found out people can pay $105 to play Silverado. Holy moly. I was thinking something like Silverado, Papago, Mountain Shadows, Gold Canyon but rates are insane down there. I guess I’ve only played shoulder or summer

They are definitely going to do Tucson to keep it major city adjacent, and unless they do summer in Phoenix I literally don’t think they can afford it. If they tried Strapped PHX in the winter I think they’d need to pack sleeping bags and picking full length walkable courses makes it slim pickings. I think it would be Papago right off the plane, they love a good college course/town. Dobson Ranch would be good for the money round, even though it doesn’t fit the typical desert course. Then lastly Cave Creek probably? That would be $80 + $60 + $44 x 2 = $368 just on golf. Tucson makes more sense and it more affordable, or they just come in summer and we get a bunch of shots of Randy fighting early alarm clocks in their effort to beat the heat.

So I see that Cody, we’ll call him an analyst, has a moderator badge. Is the refuge running some sort of PRISM operation? Collecting illicit communications on the distance rollback? Who will be our Snowden? Tron definitely has some Michael Hayden vibez

Just finished the Dissident. Was nowhere near my radar pre-Trap Draw the Kingdom and now I’m completely fascinated by all things Saudi. Hoping the tease about future Cody appearances will come to light, that man has seen some things.

What an interesting pod @Randy and @Tron. As I’m sure you guys felt, I could have listened to a lot more. Obviously a lot Cody couldn’t share but I was fascinated with his insight to all of the Middle East. Great curveball here and made the drive to Aiken this morning seem short.

I was dying throughout the pod trying to figure out where I heard his voice before. I think it was an actor I was thinking of.

I think he sounds like McConaughey at times

I can see that! But that’s not who I was thinking. It was a Jake Gylenhall looking guy, who in some film/series was the love interest that was too cool. But I can’t put my finger on it…

Whoever had Slack notifications on the pod, you made me second guess my own hearing.

If you want to dig deeper, I recommend this book to provide foundational knowledge. Took a few classes on the Middle East back in college and this was my favorite book from them:

No! But great effort…this is driving me nuts! I can picture the face and the voice, and even a blurry scene. But no idea when or what it is.

Taylor Kitsch?
