Split 10 rounds between Kingsley and Pilgrims. Can you think of a more scaleable architect than MDV? DJ touched on it last night. “Fun” is a common theme through his courses. I struggle to think of another guy who can do this. To the golf consumer you’re happy because you pay $2xx to play Kingsley but it’s worth it because it’s so fun and in such great condition. Then you go down to Diamond Springs or Pilgrims and the feeling is you get so much more than you’d think a golf dollar could get you. Fun, fun, fun and infinitely approachable. Scratch is challenged. The high index is not overly intimidated.
Get what you’re saying here and agree with it the extent that the plateau is probably longer term at that LC level but there are plateaus everywhere. I was at an 16 for like 5+ years. I don’t agree with the notion that just because someone is a high cap it means they’re getting better.
In all honesty, it would be a ton of work, a classic case of the (Uncle) Juice not being worth the squeeze.
High cap calls for it to be at Elmbrook by the TC airport where shoes and shirts are optional.
It was more meant to get the whinging low caps thinking beyond their own belly buttons than literally. But I do appreciate the consideration.
Golfers arguing and being upset about handicaps, really breaking new ground there
My question for @soly would be, after talking to Rotella, have you been working on better self-talk and improving body language to keep your attitude positive during a less than stellar round? The body language was tough as the match wore on.
Yeah it’s definitely been better. Tourist Sauce is just tough to get in an actual competitive process with drinking, usually scrambling before the round, playing very little golf in the summer leading up, and then going right into competing when you’re stuck on a handicap from when you were playing a lot more in the spring. And it’s just never fun to not really know where the ball is going.
Very weird to watch that last night after feeling like I actually just found something last week… and went out and (bogied 18) to shoot 68 today!
Every episode of TS since the very beginning has me texting my regular golf group asking, “when are we going to Insert current TS season location?” Michigan looks like a summer safe haven for golf sickos. Hope I can get there soon, because it seems unbelievable from what we’ve seen so far. Neil hyping me up to run through a wall.
Yeah that makes sense on not being in the competitive mindset.
I’ve been to Michigan in mid-May so the bugs weren’t awful. How is it the rest of the summer?
The midges can get pretty annoying. But probably not bad enough to keep you from wanting to go back.
Absolutely. The higher the handicap, generally, the wider and flatter the bell curve.
Oh, @Soly. Tsk tsk tsk. If you’re playing a recognized format (and not alone), you’re generally required to post. If you care about the Rules of Handicapping, that is.
This is random, but my lack of memory is driving me crazy. What logo is this on his shirt? I’ve seen it somewhere before but can’t place it.
Rock Creek Cattle Company here in beautiful MT.
A Doak course of course.
If this question has been ask on another tourist sauce thread I am sorry
For those of you that have played any of the courses on tourist sauce… whats the level of excitement when you played a hole better than the crew or what’s the level of WTF when they say they love a hole you hate…
Hoping to find out one day with a Texas tourist sauce but wanted to ask the group
I caught up on the Kingsley episode last night. I’m a cynical guy, that can get a bit overwhelmed by responsibilities and be all grumpy.
But watching tourist sauce just makes me relaxed and happy. I have a couple laughs, and by the end of it I’m enthusiastic for the next time I get to play golf again.
so thank you @djpie @Soly @Tron @MerchCzar @Randy @sundaybag @Cody for creating not just tourist sauce, but other content that makes me smile, deepens my love for golf, and has some redeeming qualities beyond my own personal enjoyment.
cheers.
Yeah really enjoy this format as well…I think the name of the game if I remember right is Bisque. Our usual group has a few low handicappers then a 15+ who is actually a little person. It usually shakes out to be quite even unless someone plays really well or really poorly (makes sense, right?!?).
It’s good especially for us because our buddy who is a LP has a really hard time on par 5s (might take 2 shots on a par 5) and does okay on par 3s (can go 0 strokes if he’s burned up strokes on the longer holes).
Usually ends up being fair and pretty fun
After listening to that podcast I realized having “self-talk” around Dr. Bob probably isn’t hard to do…he does most of the talking out loud! All jokes aside I’m a big fan of the guy and have read a bunch of his books…good pod!
Exactly. If I’m one under through six and tied in my match against a higher cap, the thought process is “Hey I’m one under and playing great, but so is my opponent. Gotta keep this up if I want to win. This is what competitive golf is all about.” You aren’t playing against yourself so referencing your gross score in a net competition makes zero sense.
The time to think about strokes and difficulty of match play against higher cap is during pre-round negotiation. Once the round starts, there is no upside for the lower cap to think about gross score.
Fixed during the Hueber impromptu chipping lesson in the cart barn during the 7 hr rain delay on Saturday?
