That’s how i feel. I love each episode devoted to each course. For me…I’d rather they skip some courses than split episodes. But I’m more watching for the golf trip vibe than seeing the actual courses. I know that’s not everyone’s perspective.
Hope they were able to get some good footage of the courses in Northern Michigan — I’m up in the area right now and the haze from the wildfires, despite being super far away, is pretty wild. Not a cloud in the sky, but it’s extremely grey.
I’m on this page as well. I’d rather have a couple less courses, but have them all playing the same course in every episode. It just leads to a lot more memorable moments, banter etc and feels like you really get the feel for the place versus a split episode just feels like you get a snippet.
Unless @djpie makes them all hour long episodes during the editing process.
C’mon Pie Man, be the hero the Nest needs.
This is the true comment. Hour long episodes are the way to go.
Other side of the lake here, and it’s been like that quite a bit this summer. Welcome to the new normal
They’re playing Greywalls today. Legit, probably the episode I’m most excited for of all their episodes
I feel like a lot of the courses for this season will be “you need to get to this place if you happen to be in the area”. Even Kingsley is like “if you happen to be taking a golf trip to Michigan and can access it, you need to put it on your itinerary.” But Greywalls is going to come off as “you absolutely have to make a trip up there to see it.” It’s so under the radar, and at least for me, a golf course that would be great anywhere that happens to also be in a spectacular setting. I’m not sure I’d want to play it every day (that’s what the Heritage Course is for, I suppose), but it’s unlike anything else I’ve ever played. And it should come across great on screen.
I wonder what the over/under is on the number of "SIIIICCCCCCKKKKK"s we get from this episode…
Yeah, when I played Greywalls I played with a guy who is a member. He said he tried to play 4-5 times a week and plays Greywalls 1-2 times a week because it can get to you.
I do wonder if anyone catches some of the outcroppings and their ball gets sent into space if there’s gonna be some negative feelings there. If you try to stay away from the outcroppings it’s still not unreasonable to find them from time to time.
I loved that course. It’s definitely in my top 5 I’ve ever played.
I feel like with the exposed rock, it’s either not going to hurt you that bad, or in the places it might, there is plenty of room to avoid it, and you really probably deserve what you get. Five is hybrid or three wood and short iron, so you should be able to execute. Six is a pretty big green, so the rock behind should really help if anything.
What will frustrate first timers there are the greens. 1, 14, and 17 are just awesome green complexes, and then you have greens like 7 and 18 which are really visually deceptive front to back slopes that are tough the first time (and maybe third and fourth times) through. I was up there for Kingsley v. Greywalls event we do occasionally, and our captain/superintendent told us to hit a lot of putts on 7 because it’s really tricky. Then I played alt-shot with him as my partner, and the guy who told me to be aware of the front to back slope proceeded to hit our first putt 20 feet past the hole from front to back.
I just played Champion Hill on Tuesday and thought it was awesome, kind of a bitch to walk though. Would love to see what someone other than the Fried Egg blurb I read about it thinks.
Yeah, 1 green really sets the tone. I remember thinking it’s going to be a fight on the greens. 4th green is also tricky because of the angle and the embankment it sits on. And it was either 12 or 14, I think 14, they had the front pin that was almost impossible to get to if you were above the hole. Breathe on the ball and it’s downhill 100mph. Great course that has lots of eye candy but is also stout on the less visually impressive holes
I am so excited to see the courses I have played on Tourist Sauce. Little nervous for in the increase in demand for tee times at courses close to me (Grand Rapids) once the episodes air though.
I think it will for sure have an impact on the GR courses. Very few people on the east side of the state know about them.
Grew up playing there and at Pinecroft and they were true under the radar sports for years. Owners designed both and it probably shows in a few places (7-9 at Pinecroft sucks and the finishing stretch at CH is crummy too) but the views are ridiculous and still a good value even as the greens fees have probably doubled in five years or so.
I was excited to see the Wawashkamo Circus Ring green on NLU Twitter yesterday. I played that course about 20 years ago and have fond memories.
17 at champion hill is so bad that it almost turns the corner on being good again
Tell me you know Michigan has legalized recreational cannabis without telling me Michigan has legalized recreational cannabis…
That picture just makes me really really want ice cream. Looks amazing.
