Tourist Sauce Season 7: Michigan Wine and Dine

I was honestly surprised the Mines made the cut. It feels the least like a TS course or the TS courses I have played.

I wonder which cabin they stayed in at Kingsley? Pretty humbling to think I may have used the same bed that is then immediately thereafter occupied by one of The Boys.

Mike was just in Detroit showing Ran Morissett of Golf Club Atlas around the changes at Bloomfield Hills, so it makes sense that he’s in the area. I think he’s heading down to Tasmania in the near future to work on the Seven Mile Beach project that the CDP firm got.

I’ve played multiple rounds with three architects that most people here have heard of and Mike is by far the most personable and interesting to talk golf with. Just a charismatic guy who is fun to be around. He deserves the recognition. Kingsley is the course I’d rather play every day, but Greywalls is true stunner and I’m amazed at what he and his crew did with that property. It needs to be on people’s radar.

He’s also playing in the Peninsula Cup this weekend so he’s for sure in town. I met him a couple weeks ago and he’s honestly the coolest guy. I believe he said he’s holding off on traveling to 7 Mile Beach hoping the regulations on quarantine change there. I think for him to go there right now it costs $4K and 2 weeks of your life.

Agreed on Greywalls. The drone shots from there are going to be completely bonkers.

Still need to get up there for one of those. I’ve meant to for the last two years and have been waylaid by Covid and babies. Sucks.

I’d also think they’d go to Greywalls. I’ve heard both Soly and DJ mention that they might use carts in Michigan and it would stand to reason Greywalls would be a place to use the carts. It is quite a hike to get from the clubhouse to the first tee and then once you’re out there it’s no joke with the elevation change they’ve got.

I assume it was a divide and conquer day with Diamond Springs and Pilgrim’s Run. The first Oregon episode in Portland had two ā€œStrappedā€ level courses along with Portland GC.

Yeah, that’s certainly a possibility. I know I saw that they played Mines/Pilgrims Run/Diamond Springs all in the same day. I saw Andy Johnson (TFE) showed them around at the Mines (I think that’s the course I remember him at). I saw a picture of Neil and Randy at Diamond Springs. I could see them doing 2 at each place a la Portland. Or maybe they did split morning and then everyone played the same one in the afternoon.

DJ Pie was on property at Belvedere today on the Draft Kings picks video so there’s another one confirmed.

Tron and I believe Goodbar were at Bay Harbor per Tron’s Instagram. I think that’s a good choice for a couple of reasons. 1. Soly said that since they weren’t doing Arcadia that they would find other golf on the lake. 2. They will get some sick drone footage and show some big time scale. 3. The Quarry is quirky in its own way that I’ve always enjoyed. 4. Boyne is such a huge part of Michigan Golf that it would’ve felt a little strange to not highlight them in some way.

It’s not going to be firm and fast, but it can still be great in its own way.

Not only the cost and 2 weeks - govt has slashed incoming numbers by 50% until next year - so coming into Aus is a lot harder at the moment - think the current limit is 400 per day.

Would also like to add Mike De Vries did Cape Wickham on King Island off Tasmania - the most spectacular course I’ve played.

Damn, Greywalls looks beautiful!! and only 4 hours away from me… Looks like I’ll be exploring the UP soon!

Make sure you make a trip in the fall. It’s absolutely worth it for the pictures alone. This was early October last year

Early October is exactly when I was thinking. Thanks! Heck, maybe Ryder Cup weekend, since I’ll be in Kohler already, seems like a straight shot from there.

I don’t know that I’ve ever anticipated a YouTube video more than I am seeing the NLU boys at Greywalls.

I only get up there about once a year, but it’s always one of my favorite rounds of the season.

Especially with some competition on the line, there could be some massive ejections if they get creative with some pins.

Looks like it was Belvedere and Bay Harbor yesterday (8/3). My guess is the next course will be Wawashkamo followed by Greywalls. I thought TC or DJ said the season will 11 episodes, so depending how many times they divide and conquer, it could be 13 or 14 courses. Maybe Champion Hill will sneak in

How do you guys feel about the divide and conquer episodes? I’m not a fan. Totally messes up the vibe of a group golf trip.

I really like the divide and conquer episodes. They aren’t necessarily the most memorable episodes, but they serve a good purpose in highlighting a golf rich area and allows them not to stretch these trips out too long.

God, I can’t wait until October. Michigan born and raised and unfortunately I haven’t played any of the courses being shown except for Rackham. I feel like this will light a fire for me to finally correct that.

I kind of like that they end up being able to cover more courses - if they all played every course, it would be unmanageable logistically.

But, for example, when I was going to Pinehurst I wanted to watch a FULL episode each on Mid Pines/Pine Needles/Southern Pines. So that was a letdown in that regard.
