Tourist Sauce Season 7: Michigan Wine and Dine

That’s what true players do when they want their ball to slow down. Originated circa 2008.

I know it’s the “Walmart brand” of Detroit-Style pizza - but man do I love me a Jet’s Pizza from time to time.

I think you’ll be hard-pressed to find a Michigander that doesn’t like a good Jet’s 8 Corner every now and then!

Garlic Crust FTW

Whoaaaa I would not consider Jet’s the Walmart brand! Jet’s is one of the best pizzas out there, with no better corner piece. Plus, that ranch is a must-purchase by the bottle

This is probably the best advertisement for Detroit on the internet right now

“What is the Michigan state stone?”

“Kid Rock.”

:skull:

David Chang, the chef, has said that Jet’s is his go to delivery pizza. High praise.

@djpie do you guys see a benefit of doing the live premiers? I imagine getting views soon after publishing helps for the YouTube algorithm, but I hate that premiers are limited to 1080p. I’m always torn between watching the premier and waiting till after so I can watch it in 4K

Completely echo all of this. I think Rackham might be the first time a course I’ve played has shown up on Tourist Sauce, so that was awesome, and it’s such a cool place I’m glad it was given the spotlight. My only (very minor) gripe is that I would’ve loved to see #15 featured - that’s such a fun hole with the mostly blind tee shot over the bunker. Might be my favorite single hole I’ve played all year. But @Randy waving to his fellow giraffes was so pure, so that makes up for it.

Chang also rides for Domino’s, but I’m pretty sure that’s just to annoy pizza snobs.

Jet’s is great.

I think the premieres are just more fun than anything. It’s a fun way to get some jokes off in the comments, build some excitement, etc. Hopefully makes it feel a little more communal than just “here it is, everyone watch it alone.”

They kinda detonated Pacific Dunes last year, another Doak course. I love Pacific Dunes: it’s my favorite at Bandon, so I thought they were a bit overly critical. I wonder how much the setup impacted the experience both times: they talked about Pac Dunes being extremely windy in the afternoon and quite tough. It sounded like “conditions were tough out there” with the Duel from what they said, so I wonder if it might’ve been more fun on a more regular setup too. I haven’t played the Loop though so I have no idea.

Totally makes sense. Hopefully YouTube up’s their premier quality soon for the best of both worlds!

This is probably going to be a bit rambling as I haven’t crystallized my thoughts on this yet, but I was actually thinking something very similar after watching the episode last night. I lived in the heart of the city for a number of years, bought my first home there, my daughters were born there, etc. and absolutely fell in love with the city and its people and have held a soft spot for it in my heart despite no longer living in the area.

While I didn’t think the episode would dump on Detroit, I was concerned there would be an element of “this neighborhood was cool, but I wouldn’t walk there at night…” which I hear a lot from people who live outside of the city and venture in for sporting events, concerts, etc. but who’ve never really lived it or experienced its day-to-day energy.

My years in the city were filled with love and positive energy and people from all walks of life who were moving forward together, despite what the rest of the state and country imagined our circumstances to be. Detroit - despite its many challenges, to which I’m not blind - has a diversity and grit that should be celebrated. Yes, it’s rough around the edges in spots, but its people are wonderful and it offers way more than ruin porn. This episode did an excellent job of highlighting some of the best parts of living in Detroit, and NLU team deserve praise for seeing Detroit for what it really is and what its future can be.

As of this morning over 25k people have viewed the video. Some portion of those folks aren’t NLU groupies. Some other portion probably aren’t even golfers. All of them walked away thinking, “Detroit seems like a pretty cool place…”

I’ve always had fun in Detroit. My buddy from HS moved up to Royal Oak area in early 00s so we’d always go up to visit.

Much like Cleveland, Detroit always gets shits on, but I’ve always enjoyed my trips up to the D

The ranch is top notch. There’s always a squeeze bottle in the fridge.
