Let’s get a round in! When it’s not 30 below, obviously. Also could be persuaded to rip to Canmore for screen golf this winter to meet a new Nestee.
I’d love to man! I’m not a fan of CanGOLF but they’ve got the Trackman up and running at Canmore Golf and Curling Club which is far superior in my opinion. We’ll definitely get out in the summer if I’m still in the area too. I’ve got a couple other buddies that are big NLU guys as well that would probably be keen.
Feels like…
New Zealand
Argentina
South Africa
Thailand
…as possibilities in that order.
Strapped boys visit a lady boy show would make for all time content.
I’m disappointed in the alleged sleuth’s on this website. Not a shred of hard evidence yet.
This, coupled with DJ’s “it’s January, where do you think we’re going?” on the live show.
It’s likely Australia.
Nobody is thinking they are going to stay stateside? Las Vegas and Southern Utah seem like viable options as well.
They are going away for 2 weeks. That leads me to believe not stateside
Also…this is neither here nor there BUT stateside tourist sauce seasons stink in comparison to the international ones.
I wonder if people in Ireland/Scotland would feel the opposite of your opinion? Maybe it’s all up to your frame of reference.
That being said, I do not agree with your take.
Disagree here. Michigan and California are two of my favorites.
It is hard to compare the older seasons to the newer ones, especially when you’re looking at 9-15 minute videos in Australia (probably part of why they’re headed back as well) versus 30-50 minute videos once you hit Oregon
Ireland
Oregon
Michigan
Scandinavia
Scotland
California
Carolinas
Aus/Tas/NZ
This is your ranking of seasons?
It was thrown together quickly, and now you have me second guessing myself. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched California, maybe that could move up.
I really enjoyed Scandinavia, though I know there are detractors.
To be clear, I like them all.
To be fair I say almost everything “stinks” I do love all TS seasons…truly. The international seasons are just superior. This definitely could be my frame of reference being here in US.
Quiet Friday night with nothing going on, I saw @tdaly post his rankings and felt inspired:
-
Ireland - DJ claims he has just begun his painting hobby as a 2024 goal, but he hath already blessed the canvas with the Carne episode, painting a fucking masterpiece. This season had it all with great guests (shoutout TCv1 and Huey the caddie), phenomenal courses, and most importantly… it featured plenty of cat daddy’ing. More cat daddy’ing than any other season by my count. Also, that choir wrote them a damn song, that whole thing was out of a dream.
-
Oregon - Tough to do much better stateside than running through Bandon. Add in what appears to be a truly idyllic town/course with Gearhart, some great stuff with Mike Kieser and DMK and you got yourself a party. The season champ is the cherry on top.
-
Scotland - This released right around the time I first found NLU, and it just hit on every level for me. The camaraderie, the bucket list courses, even just the scenes from the Ducks Inn made you wish you were there. During rounds, we still often utter the holy words, “Thanks be to Donald.”
-
Carolinas - Sleeper pick, upset alert First of all, the mini golf (putt putt, mini putt) episode was just A+. Talk about summing up why we love this shit so much, that episode does exactly that. The lesser known courses (to me at least) were great picks, and I’m dying to get out to all of them. And yeah, what else needs to be said about Pinehurst? It rules.
-
Michigan - Now we are quite literally in the Nest, so I’m going to be transparent… I’ve never even been to Michigan, but when the occasional “Any ideas for a great spot to do a buddies golf trip?” comes up, I still say Michigan with absolute conviction. I’m simply not woke enough to have ever heard of Mike DeVries, but I’m glad I’m familiar with his game now. Just a lot of fun, wholesome stuff going on in this season. And the more Egg the better.
-
Scandinavia - It’s funny because in terms of general cinemetography (not sure if that’s actually the word I’m going for, but that’s the one I’m using), this season really kind of drums the rest, but being as it’s the most recent, that’s to be expected. “Grand” is the word I’d use to describe the season as a whole. That’s a good thing and also something that leaves me wanting a bit for the more intimate “hanging out” of it all. As a stupid American, the lack of context going into it with the courses (outside of Lofoten) gave it a different feel.
-
California - In a weird way, this sort of feels like NLU’s “White Album” if you will. Little off the beaten path, but it still mostly delivers! Ripping up the coast in an RV, finding themselves with Gankas at a driving range that you would find at a place that also offered laser tag and go-karts, Tron telling Brian Dietzen directly to his face, “I’ve. Never. Watched. NCIS.” We also get Max and Yankees/Man U/Cowboys/KU superfan, Ballknower Poosh.
*Honorable Mention
Australia - It’s not really fair to rank this one. There are plenty of funny moments and the courses were unbelievable, but this was before Tourist Sauce was what it is now. Really, really hoping they’ll go back… possibly next?
Author’s Note
I think, based on courses and general vibes alone, Scotland has a legitimate case for best season overalll, but startuppy limitations prevented it from being the true #1. Akin to the early 2010’s OKC Thunder, the pieces were absolutely there, but it just might not have been the right time yet.
Would love either Australia or New Zealand, IMO should be separate seasons. Feel like there’s enough in NZ to do its own season.
Definitely could do an Australia re-do. Would love to see RA, a drive down the Great Ocean Road to Port Fairy, head into Melbourne for the Sandbelt, the King Island and Tasmania triangle, check out Hobart and the progress on 7 Mile Beach, and finish in Sydney at NSW.
Gotta put Sagebrush in there, and if they are in the area hop back across the border to Gamble Sands same way they did with Great Northern in the last season.
