A little context here. Terry (the guy interviewed in the clubhouse) was walking along with us that round. He was spotting balls since it was a blind tee shot. He was standing at “my ball” when I got up to it in the right rough, and I didn’t check to confirm because it seemed correct. I went back and mine was like 3 yards to the right of it.
Long story short, I should have checked for the cross and the penalty is my cross to bear!
