The course and Club are every bit as good as the logo. Can’t wait for that episode.
I think the NLU crew would agree, @soly says as much, and that was the entire point of the episode. Plus, Soly is ride or die for the Ryder Cup so it has to happen.
For the most part I agree with you. My first trip to Ireland we played Adare and another parkland course called Ballykisteen. While the courses were in great shape, it was not what I wanted from Irish golf. Second trip we played Sligo and Doolin and it was more what I considered to be an authentic Irish golf experience. However, as was mentioned on the video, links golf in tough conditions can beat you up a little, so if I was over on a golf trip and had spent the first couple days getting blasted by wind I would appreciate a move inland, just for a round or two. So I wouldn’t want the whole series to be about courses like Adare, but 1 episode is fine.
Loving the season so far. Great stuff, all around. Doonbeg looks pretty nice, but I don’t think I will visit any time soon. Lahinch is at the very top of my must play list, so it couldn’t get any higher, but WOW! I’m personally not likely to go to Adare Manor (limited time and money, not lack of interest), but my brother is currently planning a trip centered around next year’s ND-Navy game in Dublin, and pretty much every guy who is going really wants to stay and play at Adare (with all other courses on the trip being the standard SW links lineup), and since my brother turned them all on to NLU youtube and podcasts, they were pumped for last night’s episode. Can’t wait for Ballybunion and beyond. Thanks!
Sounds like a few ND-adjacent refugees will be over there around then. I’ll probably only play three or four rounds over the week while we’re there, but Lahinch is at the top of my list pre and post Tourist Sauce episodes.
I’m making the trip, so shoehorning myself into this conversation in case we want to start planning a Refuge gathering.
Yeah, my brother also went to ND, and the group is a combination of fellow alums and subway alums. I would really like to join them, but likely won’t for a few reasons. They tend to “go big” from an expense perspective, and they likely will only play 18 per day. While I am sure they will have a great trip, I’m a bit too obsessed with seeing the golf courses to spend my daylight hours doing much else. I know many would frown on that, with all the sights to see, but I’ve been to Ireland before for non-golf, and will go again with the family, so next trip will be 36 a day for 6-9 days. If only it was already scheduled!
I did the 36/day for two weeks in Scotland in August/September. I’ll be a little bummed not to play as much in Ireland, but I haven’t been before, and will enjoy some of the normal tourist stuff.
Got an email that @TomCoyne is doing an Ireland golf/football trip for the game. I’ll see if I can scrounge it up but “the real TC” may want to add some insight.

Let’s just get crazy and have an impromptu Refuge meet-up at Lahinch next year. I want to go there so much.
Yeah I’ve seen it, and it looks pretty cool. The issue is that I’m going with a few classmates, and only one other guy would want to do the all golf trip (and he’s married). The two of us will bring our clubs and sneak away for a couple rounds, but we wouldn’t be able to sell that TC trip to the rest of the crew.
@swade can you sauce me a buddy pass? i’m down
See you there, I’m going to bid a bunch of Shannon layovers next spring/summer and start knocking some of these off.
lmk when you can get me a buddy pass and ill join forces.
Will do. Shannon is a tough scene, it’s the only Europe flight that we have that takes 2 pilots instead of 3, so I won’t get to nap on the way over. Still, I can power through if I have someone forcing me to.
I would be down for that. It’s an absolutely incredible place. 10/10 would go there again.
enough about your struggles… can you get my free ticket? ![]()
It’s not free, but it’s deeply discounted. Take this to the DMs though, no one wants to witness your thirst out in the open in this thread.
My financial planner is suggesting I find a cheaper hobby…
Never has a post in the Refuge hit THIS close to home…oye
