This is great! Count me as one of the newbies. In reading most posts over last month or so, I think this is Refuge/Nest thing going simultaneously goofy and awesome.

Admittedly, I have no idea what Discord is or how it works, so I’d welcome someone explaining it to me like I’m 5 years old.

Discord is, essentially, our smaller version of this, but with a lot more getting to know the people you are talking to. We are, admittedly, a lot, so don’t feel pressured in any way to feel like you have to jump in from the word go. Nobody will bite and the goal is really just get more people in our lives we can shoot the shit with and play some golf/meet up for other events.

It’s web or app based, depending on how you wish to use it, but here’s the link to get started.

As another follow along to what @mikedabomb said above.

If there is an event you see that has a waitlist, and you’d love to be involved, toss your name on there.

This is three fold:

  1. there are sometimes drops because life happens and maybe you get to come play some unexpected golf with us
  2. there’s sometimes room to add more tee times
  3. knowing interest levels for the year prior helps us plan for the future. It’s easier to justify expanding a field in an event when we see a waitlist vs if we have 30 people in a 28 person field.

We recognize that coming into a community is never easy, so having you want to join ours is awesome! We have a thread on our discord that is for feedback, as well. As good of a sales person/lawyer combo Mike and I are, we can’t read minds.

I will say not a surprise, but many good options for our 14th hole but it goes to The Oaks:

#1 The Oaks par 4 - 353 yds
#2 Westridge GC par 5 - 476 yds
#3 Kenosha CC par 3 - 130 yds
#4 The Bull par 5 - 493 yds
#5 Whistling Straits par 5 - 543 yds
#6 The Bull par 3 - 173 yds
#7 Ironwood Callow par 5 - 496 yds
#8 Twin Lakes CC par 5 - 500 yds
#9 The Oaks par 5 - 492 yds
Par 40 - 3656 yds

#10 Blackwolf Run Meadow Valleys par 4 - 330 yds
#11 The Bull par 4 - 331 yds
#12 Glen Erin par 4 - 400 yds
#13 Blackwolf Run River par 3 - 205 yds
#14 The Oaks par 4 - 403 yds

Now taking nominations for #15

I will start, Quit Qui Oc #15. It’s a Tom Bendelow design (if you don’t know who this is Strapped Louisiana ep 1 aka the Johnny Appleseed of Golf) in Elkhart Lake, WI right next to Road America. Front 9 is untouched, back 9 was re-done after WW2 and this abomination must have Bendelow rolling in his grave.

Blind tee shot over a small rise to a steep drop near the pond which is very much in play. Then back up to an elevated green (like very elevated). Miss right or left the green drops off over 10 feet on either side. Two tiered green sloped back to front, not exaggerating when I say this is the STEEPEST green I’ve even seen. When the course gets baked out in the summer, any putt from above the hole will roll off the green. While coaching high school golf and scouting this hole, for fun I tossed a ball slightly in the air at the top of the green and the ball rolled off the green, down the hill 50 yards off the green noted by the red X in the photo.

@Amholzman24 did I miss anything?

Well said. Fuck QQO. It’s a fucking terrible golf course. This hole highlights it.
They have literally had to let this green get shaggy in summer because it’s unplayable if it’s rolling anywhere near a respectable speed.

The blind tee shot also has no indication of where you should actually hit it.

It’s a pace of play murderer

And we’re back with #15 on Timber Ridge.

A dogleg right par 5 with OB all up the left might not seem bad away first until you realize how much it pinches where you want to land your drive. The bunker is well placed except for the fact that anything left kicks hard left and anything that carries the bunker kicks hard right into the shit.

If you find the fairway or just keep your ball in play it just gets worse from there. Want to go for it in two? You need to carry not only a bunker but a giant 50 foot tall tree right in front of the bunker. Who doesn’t love a double hazard.

Want to lay up? You need to push it up far enough to avoid the tree but too far left there’s another tree and the next tee box.

Miss the green in any direction and it all slopes off hard and fast into the trees. This hole just plain sucks.

I hit a shot from here directly at that bunker thinking that was the green. Twirled it and everything. Put it exactly where I was thinking with a hybrid.

Imagine my surprise when we get up there and that’s not the green.

Wish I could move the Wisconsin border a few miles north into the UP because this monstrosity of a double dogleg par 5 should be “honored” on this page. 15th at North Shore in Menominee, MI

But alas, I’ll have to settle for it not to be nominated since the people of Wisconsin are too cowardly to take over the UP
