What if we took a Florida golf hole, and just kinda shove it near lake michigan?

#5 on Straits was thusly born.

I get why they did it because that part of the property is super swampy so few options, but objectively a mess compared to the rest of the course. Doing major changes to the green though which is making it better. May still vote for it here even though I’m a Straits defender

Time to vote, worst hole #5? I will say a lot of good contenders here.

  • Whitnall Park #5
  • Mascoutin #5
  • DeSmidt’s #5
  • The Bull #5
  • Kettle Hills #5
  • Whistling Straits #5

We’ll keep this one open a bit longer past the holidays til like the 27th

This hole fucking sucks. Almost as bad as 10 over there.

10 is ok - you have a line to blast it up near the green from the tee

11 kind of blows

I’m sure the color is fine, but have been USPS’d.

In our sickest result so far, the Straits takes it! Here is where we stand:

#1 The Oaks par 4 - 353 yds
#2 Westridge GC par 5 - 476 yds
#3 Kenosha CC par 3 - 130 yds
#4 The Bull par 5 - 493 yds
#5 Whistling Straits par 5 - 543 yds

Suggestions for hole 6?

I’ll leave Fox Hills Blue 6 for @kcurry11 and nominate another bad hole on the property.

#6 at The National at Fox Hills has ruined so many hot starts for me over the past 20 years I have to put it here.

Options off the tee:

  1. The island fairway - Island starts around a 200 yard carry from the blue tees, and runs out around 250. This will probably leave you somewhere between 120 and 170 into the green. But it’s not as welcoming as it looks and is usually covered with goose shit. I’ve lost many a ball going for this so I avoid it now.

  2. Layup club near the bunkers - The option most of my golf group takes but it leaves you with a long way into this Par 4 with water creeping in off the left if you’re short.

  3. Driver cutting the dogleg - Have to hit it at least 275 to avoid the three trees blocking your path around the 230 mark. Miss left and you have a long drop or are re-teeing. Miss right and it goes into or over the hills (bare spots right of the fairway) leaving you a blind shot if you can find your ball in the tall grass.

I think both are amazing options. This is #6 Blue

I’ve highlighted the tee box, and circled what used to be a tree that stuck out 15 feet above everything else until it was poisoned (RIP).

You can try to carry it above the trees, but draw it a little and it just gets lost down the left in the tall grass, and everything left of the fairway falls into the tall grass. Go long of the fairway, and it’s tree city.

It’s no where near as bad as Blue 8, we will get there, but it’s very bad none the less.

I remember 6 & 8 now, I remember when coaching the high schoolers that you had to hit like crazy perfect draws to even have a chance

Am I a bad guy if I sneaky love the concept of the hole?

It’s poorly executed for sure. But the concept isn’t bad

I think it is the three trees that make it a bad hole. If you take them away, it is an homage to 18 at Sawgrass with an island fairway included and bunkers/hilly rough instead of trees. Gimmicky yes, but not terrible at that point.
