The Down Under thread - ANZAC adjacent

My memory’s a bit foggy on Wentworth Falls…I do recall it being somewhat tree lined and thus problematic for someone like me who can easily hit an adjacent fairway. I do need to visit there (plus Springwood and Blackheath) some time this year.

@BaconFingers I was out at the same time yesterday…wasn’t too bad as long as there was just enough of a breeze. Club champs at Richmond starts next week, so anything for some more dry weather to get rid of some more of the moisture and harden up the greens a bit.

How good is that hole! Was last to play, I had 4 iron in, wind off the left. Played it a bit further left than I wanted and it hung out there, thought I was up in the scrub! Kinda thinking fek walked back to cart put my club away and looked back to the green to see a ball sitting 15ft short of the pin! Gotta love a big punch bowl complex, such a fun way to play golf

What’s everyone’s take on Rory’s caddie player dynamic atm? I know Rory backs him but I think he wins last night if he doesn’t have a Woolworths brand caddie on the bag his best mate. He needed talking out of that 3 wood from 280-290 off the deck on 18 and I think a world renowned professional caddie does that. He only needed a birdie to win and a par to guarantee a play off, should of been a lay up! His temper was running red hot, wasn’t thinking straight and his caddie doesn’t look like he does anything. Don’t know how you fire ya best mate haha but what’s everyone’s thoughts?

Tough scene for sure… I probably don’t know enough about the backstory as to how this guy ended up on his bag but if it’s his best mate I’m assuming Rory figures he’s got the golf part of things dialled in and wants a friendly, calming face on the bag?

Interesting analysis on the Farmers Recap pod about Rory’s decision making on 18. Doesn’t mention the caddy specifically but certainly points out the questionable decision

Didn’t he make the decision a while back to use his mate as he wanted to do a lot of the “caddy work” with yardages and choices?

Tough one, as there would be a very short list of caddies that could take that bag on and make a real difference. Maybe Tiger could lend him Joey for a year?

Changing the topic briefly, for any of you Sydney based sickos looking to step up your practice game I just got back from an introductory session at Golfspace which just opened at Alexandria.

Fantastic, trackman-based facility with a dedicated wedge practice range and Puttview laser mapped putting green.

Membership was a bit pricey but definitely the sort of place I can see myself using once a month

Looks good!

And $80/hr for a Trackman bay seems reasonable.

Assume you can use your own balls if you want to?

Like, if you wanted to do an indoor ball fitting you could use it for that?

I’m yet to listen to the Farmers recap, be interesting to hear their take on it!! I was screaming at the tv, could only see it going one place and that was the drink. I just wonder if the best mate vibe can take him back to the major winners circle or does it need to be a pro caddie to help reign in a decision like last night. His talking more 3 woods off the tee to play smart then he does that :see_no_evil:

You could be right but who knows. I’m not that into second guessing him or any other professional athlete. We have very little idea as to what’s going on away from what we get shown on tv. Also don’t really care who wins between Rory, Richard Bland or Hovland, as long as it’s not boring. These guys aren’t playing for you or me and unless it’s an Australian (who probably also don’t play for you or me) I’m not that heartbroken when the “good guys” lose.

Yeah I believe that is the case. Pretty sure I got this from an NLU pod. He wanted to take responsibility for stuff himself, who knows what the dynamic is like. Rory has been teasing for quite a while now and it’s frustrating because I, like many people want him to win.
Leish seems to have a similar thing going with Matty Kelly who I don’t think had much experience prior to working together. Also heard he is one of the better caddies going around now though.
To sum it up, I have no clue and have just heard these things.

Yeah I think pricing is fine for what you get, I just don’t know I’d get there every week to make the most of a membership.

All the balls I hit were ProV1s and the odd AVX. I had read they were going to be using the RCT balls but didn’t see any there.

It was a soft opening tonight and they didn’t say anything one way or another about what balls to use but I don’t see any reason why not. Didn’t see any of the italicised spin numbers either which I understand happens sometimes with Trackman.

Overall though, highly recommended even if just to be able to dial in wedges on their range and get numbers from the Trackman combine.

They also mentioned that they are doing a collaboration with Bonnie Doon GC - apparently they’ve paid to have BDGC added as a playable course on Trackman which will be the first AU course available

@wilbur.kay I just headed to the site to grab some stickers, and the NLU Retro shirt shows up as free. As much as the greedy bastard in me wants to take advantage of a possible mistake, I thought it would be more Australian to point it out.

@KristianJ Geez you’re a good egg.

There is a free Nest sticker sheet going in with any order you make this week.

Thanks for that
Will

No worries, Will…I’ll get around to putting a little order in tonight or tomorrow - plenty of time for it now that I’m in iso for a week. :frowning:

Ouch.

Hoping to time my Covid diagnosis for Master’s week…

Don’t be scared of the hoodies and trackpants on the site for home based activities. I was nervous about the fitted legs on the trackpants, but I won’t look back now I have worn them for a couple of months.

Shout out to @wilbur.kay for the slick new H&B polo that arrived this week.

If @MerchCzar has already got the trademark on “small shop” what are you going by?

In lieu of “really tiny shop”, how does ‘hobby shop to justify wearing lots of NLU stuff’ roll off the tongue?

Seriously though @BaconFingers all of the H&B stuff is fantastic, and the diamond knit I got last season is the best item of clothing I own.

Thanks heaps for the support, and glad it all landed safely.

Love this take, and could definitely take it on.

I am going to try to get the guys to develop a Wayward Logo with the guy holding an Australian flag for some t-shirts in the next drop. Fingers crossed we can get it to happen, as that would be a nice little addition to the t-shirt library.
