The Down Under thread - ANZAC adjacent

Can certainly help out with lists, recs, general tips, wine, beer, you name it. Happy to host in the Wellington area also.

There’s probably plenty of lists concerning the “best” (most notable/expensive) North Island courses, but where a chump like me can help is more in the hidden gem/local hookup department. I’ve played plenty of the name courses and yes they are great, but there are plenty of great courses which are a bit more off the radar.

For what it’s worth, here is a mix of excellent North Island courses which would be worth your time. Rates vary from honesty boxes to north of $400.

Wairakei
Kinloch
Kidnappers (closed til sometime in April)
Bridge Pa
Paraparaumu Beach
Titirangi
Muriwai
Rangatira
Ohope Beach
Kauri Cliffs
Ngamotu
Manawatu
Lansdowne
Royal Wellington (can host)

There’s more but it’s late and I’m on holiday. Always happy to to help if I can!

Checking in as Aussie expat living just north of London. Will be back in Oz (mostly Sydney & south coast NSW) for a month from mid-March, would be great to hook up with some Nesticles while there.

That does sound like a strategy you would employ

21 rounds in 21 days over the Christmas break, barely even felt like I played any golf!

Anyone else sick of this Djokovic stuff? You don’t want to get vaxxed and tried to bend the rules for getting in to the country. Just f*ck off, mate.

I know you have the hook-up with Big Dog for headcovers, and I know they are currently sold out, but if you’re able to get the tie-dye skeleton driver covers in at some stage, I will gladly take one off your hands to replace my boring stock Taylor Made one.

Very keen on a Ward sweater & tech hoodie for the aesthetics, but tough to justify the need for it in Perth summer, so maybe down the track.

Probably doesn’t make sense for you to offer this, margins wise, but just wondering if there has been any thought of the Nest member discount or similar working at Craft Golf?

Full disclosure - i’m lucky in that I can take advantage of that & the free US shipping by utilising my in-laws address in the States, then have them forward on to me/pick up whenever i’m over if i’m not in a rush; aware not everyone has that option & don’t want to be cutting into your lines. The free postage from Craft certainly helps mitigate things.

Not going to lie, I’m enjoying seeing both Djokovic and Scomo look like utter fools throughout the whole process

Hi there

Margin wise it would be tight, but at the same time, I am well aware that the nest members are the reason this thing works, so a smaller margin of something, is a whole lot better than a big margin of nothing! I am open to suggestions as to how we could manage it, but a simple 10% off for nest members with a code would be possible?

Let me know what you are looking for and I will do what I can to match or improve on any pricing you are getting with the US mailbox setup…

Newish Nesticle here…I hail from the western Sydney heatbelt (well, at least when the east coast is in El Nino).

Looking forward to getting a bit more involved here and make some good contacts for a couple of forthcoming trips…I’m heading to the F1 GP in April and NRL Magic Round in May, plus haven’t yet been down to Barny so thinking about a trip down there later in the year

ScoMo is PM at the first time since probably WW2 when you could make some really common sense decisions, show a teensy amount of genuine leadership and enjoy record popularity and has managed to consistently f*ck it up - it’s almost impressive.

Welcome mate! I’m in the south or Sydney but always happy to travel for a round if you want to tee it up some time.

Where do you play most of your golf?

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke really!!

Awesome. Appreciate your response, and wouldn’t need to match the 15% as the savings on postage already go a decent way to that. Understand the exchange rate & economies of scale makes this a tough one so will have at think & see what the go is. Again, thanks for getting back to me.

I’m a member at Richmond, but on the odd occasion I get the time to venture a bit further east/south/north. Always keen to find and play new courses, whether they be Strapped types or a bit more C Suite.

Nice mate, playing new courses is high on the agenda for me this year.

If you’re out richmond way do you get out to Riverside Oaks much?

I don’t think I’ve made it out there since COVID hit…but I’ve heard that Bungool (the newer course) still hasn’t come back from the big floods last March, and only 9 holes are in action. Which is a shame, because it is a fun layout.

Great stay and play spot though - I’ve had a couple of trips out there with groups and the accommodation was pretty good.

Yeah was a shame to see the damage to Bungool, I really love that course. Hope they get it all back soon

Played St Andrews Beach yesterday for the first time, what a treat! Cant wait to get back there

Not a problem at all, and very keen to get cracking on 2022 with some of the fresh t shirts, caps and polos coming down the line. They all look amazing, and should build nicely into April for a good restock of the hoodies and jumpers closer to when we need them down here!

(excluding Tassie where I have been wearing the hoodies all year round…)

A chronically underrated and underappreciated golf course. Doak apparently hardly moved any dirt to build it the land was that good. I guess the nearby The Dunes remains more popular due to the slightly lower green fee, but it’s also a lot more busy…

One of those courses that as soon as you finish you want to play again.

Here is the approach to the “punchbowl” green on the 3rd hole. So many ways to hit this one, and it would be fun just to spend 30 mins trying them all…
