The Donnybrook: Airports, Parties, Golf. Let's Gooooooo

Just a heads up, Governor Cooper just announced phase 3 beginning, so that means bars can reopen with outdoor seating only. So you may have a few more options to grab a beer.

I was looking at the Pinehurst trip planning thread and they said the Pik N Pig has great bbq. It’s north of Pinehurst so might be good place to hit up after TR.

I ate at the Deuce and drank at the brewery last year when passing by. Both were great. What about Dugans, Drum & Quill, or Theos Taverna? They seem close and local. I always like to try little local places when I can.

I LOVE Cookout and have really missed my Cookout trips this summer. But Cookout is a little sketchy during normal times. I can’t imagine they are “better” during COVID times.

I’ve been to Dugan’s twice, and it is alright. I thought the Shepherd’s Pie was pretty good. The Reuben is OK, not great, but not bad either. Drum & Quill has been too crowded the times we tried, and ended up at Dugans.

This is a feature not a problem.

Also there are a bunch of recommendations in the Pinehurst Trip threads.

I’m a little worried about this. I’ve had to be a little extra cautious this year since I take care of my Mom while she is battling cancer. I haven’t put myself in a bubble wrapped box, but I’ve had to avoid places just to be on the safe side. Hopefully I’ll be able to find some places with outdoor seating and low crowds.

Absolutely. Cookout food is just a rental.

Been to drum & quill the last few times at pinehurst and would recommend. Also heard Maxie’s is the place the caddies go to drink. Cannot wait!!! Let’s goooo boys!

I too am hoping for some outdoor seating options.

I spent a good chunk of time at dugan’s last time I was in pinehurst. Food was fine (bar food) it was dead downstairs and we had a good chat with the bartender and played a shit ton of darts.

Also they have a boom-ba band night! (I own a boom-ba and had never seen others “in the wild”)

So a little of a follow up, I ordered that cool headcover with the expectation I should have it by this event.
I emailed asking the status of my order and they said that any orders that fall outside a 6 week window get “rushed” into production with hopes of fulfillment in 3 weeks. Does potentially waiting over 2 months for a custom headcover seem crazy to anyone else?

The email from Pinehurst this morning just made it that much more real people! One week!

No more so than not finding the custom cover you want and teaching yourself to make them!

It’s worth the wait IMO

I nominate @TNhacker He’s a last minute addition to the trip but you’ll all be glad he’s in. Ben is one of my friends from UT and consistent golf travel buddy. So Ben, what’s in the bag? (see a post 100 up from here for the format)

Mr. Ben @TNhacker, you are now on the clock.

@davidc got a final pre-trip round in. I’ve got one more round on Saturday before we’re locked and loaded.

Sadly the season is ending up here. Some courses might actually close for the year before I get back. Big oof. So I’m particularly jazzed to be heading to such a premium area for golf.

This is days away, folks.
