Anyone here really using full frame cameras? I still get a lot of use out of my 5D and 5DMkII. I think they’re up to like MkV now. ![]()
Edit: Just checked. Still on MkIV.

Nice! I’ve used the 23mm and had great success, but I’m in a similar position with the 56mm. It has some special sauce and it rarely leaves my camera. If I absolutely have to take the 56mm off, there’s just a little bit of a letdown when I start shooting with the 23mm. I think that 35mm might be the sweet spot. And it has the same aperture, so I can shoot it still wide open, which is essentially all I ever do, anyway.
Yup. Sony A7III for me.
We most definitely can.
This is a GREAT deal for a starter package. The 24-70 is a great versatile lens and the a7ii gets lots of traction on a professional basis. The auto focus is lightning quick and Sony offers a great range of glass to go with it. Form factor is pretty compact as well so you’ll be able to stuff this in a golf bag pretty easily.

I appreciate it, I really do - any other recommendations out there? I like to do significant research up front.
If you want to go with a more “robust” setup to start - go preowned DSLR
I need to preface by saying that Mirrorless cameras are the future, and the future is now. LOTS of value and technology packaged into a tiny little form factor. I’m looking into the R8 myself, but I shoot Canon
Just to clarify btw - whatever brand you choose, that’s the type of lens mount you’re stuck with. So whichever way you want to go, stick with that brand and grow your collection of lenses.
With a grand in Canon? I’d either go with the 80D and this Tamorn lens (Tamron and Sigma are solid budget lens options that pack a lot of punch, I still shoot professionally with Tamron). The F2.8 gives you more versatility at night and variable light conditions, plus the 80D is a solid video option as well (if you want to play in that space)

Or…if you wanted to stay in the mirrorless space, get something like a used R10 and a 15-45. The crop sensor is just fine for starting out, and you’ll be able to invest in good glass with a solid camera body as you learn.

I’d go fujifilm xt-4 or even the xt-3 and pick up the 16-55mm f2.8 aka the “bag of primes”. All used of course - the only way to buy camera kit.
Today I learned that all public universities liquidate their camera gear to this website:
So whenever they get a bunch of new gear, they sell the old stuff for REALLY cheap. Shoutout the University of Maryland Photo Department for the heads-up
I trust you, but this is maybe the sketchiest website I’ve ever seen.
Walked up Pen Y Fan via Corn Du in Wales with my puppy, Biscuit. Some Game of Thrones level scenery.
Also some purple heather for those watching the Women’s Open.
I love the moodiness’s of these!
Anyone here have a good recommendation for a camera backpack?
Just added a 16-35mm to the arsenal, but I’m officially out of space in my old Ruggard shoulder bag.
Would ideally like to house 2 bodies and 4 lenses if possible.
I have this, which can easily hold my drone, 24-70, 70-200, spare batteries, cords, etc. I would think it’d fit what you’re looking for, especially if you’ve gone mirrorless (I forget). It’s obviously heavy as all hell with all of that, but that’s to be expected on team full frame DSLR. Price is obviously up there…
I have the Fuji 56mm 1.2 and it’s crazy how good it is. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on the Sigma!
