Caddie to caddie @Ghost_of_Ty_Webb hat tip and firm handshakes all around.

Sorry to have missed the coronation @3PuttKing but congratulations!

@Privatecollection drinks on me when I’m in CO next time to another top notch event and even from Ohio and just reading about it, I’m reminded why I love this place.

Yeah, EW619 would be a little lacking in the pizazz department.

Update: Not stolen, thankfully… Someone moved it without notice or explanation, but at least it’s here!

Y’all… I have slept so much the past two days, but I’ve finally put together some thoughts on the weekend that was in Frisco. Admittedly, this is long winded, but hopefully provides some context as to why it all just means more.

First of all, I stand with @3PuttKing as a worthy champion and vehemently disavow any haters and losers who have something to say about it. If anyone can complain, it’s @Sweet_Cupn_Cake and I, and we’re not, so no one else should. Congratulations to the King on an incredible ball striking performance, and to the team of @Ghost_of_Ty_Webb and yourself for putting together a game plan, and executing it. The man hit shots I can truly only dream of, and that’s just something to take your hat off for.

It’s no secret that I care, and a large part of that is due to the impact @Privatecollection has had on my life. My perspective was changed forever after attending The Summit, and that opened the doors for everything I’ve accomplished professionally in golf. Thank you Erin for all your hard work and sacrifices to make sure we are set up for once in a lifetime weekends every time we show up. I feel so fortunate to have attended five of your events now, with a ticket punched to a sixth… Here’s hoping that streak never ends.

Obviously, there would have been no Summit, no Roosts, or experiences like this without the entire NLU crew. I have forged memories and friendships that will last a lifetime thanks to your commitment to this community. All of your willingness to invest yourselves into a weekend like this is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly, and combine that with what you all do for the game of golf… We simply can’t thank you enough!

It was a sincere honor having @Tron on the bag last year in the Championship Round, but it was a completely different experience. Last year, I was just happy to have won my flight… I didn’t think I could play 18 more holes and couldn’t control my heart rate, nonetheless compete at my highest level. My guy did all he could to jockey a lame horse to the finish line, but the horse just didn’t have it… I kept that feeling all year long and was better for it, even if the result wasn’t much different. I kept an OG NLU towel and the Precision Pro I won in last year’s NIT on my bag all year as a reminder - waiting for @Cody to use it in this round. Now, I would have been as happy as anyone else to see the Sarge win his flight, but last year he asked if I wanted him on my bag and I opted for TC since we had just played together at the RCC (and wouldn’t change that pick or decision for the world — that’s my quarterback), but I legitimately wouldn’t still play golf if it wasn’t for the Code Man. I was on what I was calling a “Retirement Tour”, with my last stop being an event in Pinehurst where I got the chance to play with him. Something about that round — fun golf, great company, exchanging stories about Montana and our lives — it was just everything I needed to fall in love with the game again. Those two rounds in NC are what pushed me to start our match play that evolved into the Roost, and now here we are almost three years later.
Even though I didn’t have my best during that final round, it was nothing short of a blessing to fight with you into the dark. Thanks for supporting me, pushing me, and caring for me. You’re the man and I appreciate you @Cody

Even though I fell short (I putted right handed 6 times on Saturday y’all, a mental head case like that never deserved it - it’s okay), it is surreal to be mentioned in print. I grew up reading articles over and over again about my family from Montana publications, and we can certainly lean into the bit as much as we want about my connection to Montana, but it’s real and it’s legitimately one of the greatest honors of my life to be mentioned by one of Montana’s favorite sons. Thank you @kvv.

To my High Cotton guys… I’m so proud of y’all, and even that’s an understatement. Again, we can lean into the bit that we fall short or this and that, but three HCC guys won their flight and earned the right to fight in the Championship Round, with one of those keeping another out of it. From being our sole representation last year to having six representatives this year… It’s just a really humbling feeling. I’m proud of what we’ve built and the friendships/experiences it’s led to. From small towns in the south to a course built for the best players in the world, we made it - together.

Finally, to the field: It’s always an overwhelming endeavor to try to engage with 96 different people, and I always leave feeling as if though I failed a little bit by not talking to more people. Whatever the case may be, thank you all for your contributions to this weekend. It doesn’t mean what it means without y’all, and it’s always an honor to be a part of this field. I appreciate all the conversations I had, new friendships formed, and look forward to the opportunity to meet and engage with some of the folks I missed next year or at The Extinction. I could tag so many of y’all (but I literally can’t), so please know I appreciate you all sincerely.

PS, for the stat keepers at home: That’s back to back Flight wins and 3rd Place finishes in the NIT… has to put me on a short list. Combine that with my RCC record, and the bit may be that I can’t close, but I’ll leave that for the talking heads… I am the man in the arena.

Alright, my turn…

First, I just want to echo what everyone has already said. Thank you @Privatecollection for the truly amazing weekend! I think this was my third or fourth large scale NLU event and I am constantly blown away that each event Erin puts together continues to top the previous. Everything about those 3 days was truly first class and I deeply appreciate the opportunity to join this group of sickos for my first NIT.

For the rest of the NLU crew, when I first hit that follow button on the No Laying Up twitter account in early 2014 after reading Soly’s “How to Act Like a Tour Pro: An NLU Primer”, I had no idea the paths crossed would lead to Frisco, TX on a perfect weather weekend in November 2023. It has been exciting to see the growth y’all have made over the past nine-ish years from bagging on Phil and Bubba (all accurate) to partnering up with the likes of Titleist/FootJoy/Omni/Yeti to host this group while still maintaining your down-to-earth attitudes.

A massive congrats to the new champ @3puttking and his urban Sherpa @Ghost_of_Ty_Webb for winning the whole damn thing while starring down some truly elite ball strikers. Get your threes up for the champ!

I was incredibly fortunate to get to play my three rounds with 8 new friends I had not met before this weekend. Shoutout for running it back from the OG Roost Club Championship @RolandOfGilead, always good to see you homie. Joe, Ayan, Scott, both Sams, Cal, Eric, and Dom I look forward to teeing it up again in the future and will gladly travel to your neck of the woods to do so.

High Cotton boys, just aspirational play as always, but secondary only to the vibes. Already looking forward to seeing y’all again at the Extinction in June.

@HHSBallCoach, I was happy to run out of holes because the beating you put on the Whole Foods flight was clinical.

That mountain top is coming sooner than later for @leftysauce and I will take any and all bets from those who think otherwise. I truly believe Conner is the epitome of what the Refuge stands for and is one of my favorite people I have met in my time around here.

@therealmarkymark & @jco, always a good time getting to hang out with you Plex dudes and am ready to run it back again at Cedar Crest and Dornick again this year.

Capping of my weekend: @RobertHunter “Beaumont Texas MFer…” Thanks for the help with bringing down that last bag and I am so glad only I got to see this one play out! Congrats on getting an award named after you as well!

I think I put it in the 2021 Golf Season in review a couple of years ago, but this event and all the other ones truly brings it back to this for me… Never skip a chance to meet up and play golf with some strangers on a niche golf message board despite what the adults told us growing up.

Sorry if I left anyone out here as I wrack my brain trying to remember everything this weekend.

Cheers y’all!

Oh yeah, @tibbs you ain’t getting away that easy… Police/Fire escorts, meeting the ground face-to-face on several occasions, becoming the worlds most intoxicated private investigator while looking for your missing bag… what a weekend my brother!! Love you buddy and can’t wait to see you again soon.
