I can see where maybe we should try to keep the content threads on topic to help the brand. But at the same time, this is a unique place that makes people feel like they are a part of something. I donât know many small internet forums that could sell out group trips to Pinehurst and Scotland within minutes, hours, days (whatever it was) without really needing to go public. I can agree that there might be some bad sides to how things are going, but I also think there is a lot of upside and a tremendous amount of brand loyalty being built. It could be worse. It could be like all the rest of the golf forums out thereâŚ
(Could everyone do a better job keeping things on-topic, starting new threads when it wildly devolves, and keeping things more organized on the whole? Absolutely!
But the interdisciplinary nature of the refuge at large is refreshing and emblematic of NLUâs approach to golf and entire ethos at large. As always, thereâs a happy medium.
Also, @Soly, take the advice of bevcart girl at Coldwater from Strapped 1.2: âGET OFF YOUR PHONE, ENJOY NATURE!!!â Have fun with your pops playing some of the finest golf courses on the planet.
To stay with the strapped theme, when do the hidden tapes from what went on the night before Sierra Sage get published? Somewhere between the margs and free chips and where episode 3 picks up, stumbling through the streets of Reno at 3am.
Iâd love to get you some literature on our NLU membership program.
In the theme of living under par, there should be a value assigned to âgoing lowâ the night before the chase for the Mega Bonus (Fedex Cup), similar to the current tour championship setup. That way, despite the hangover, Neil starts the day 2 under, Randy at even, but feeling much better
start at (# beers consumed) / 3 under par
this reminds me of an outrageous event. two-man, best ball, total score is net against total number of beers consumed.
so a 72 with 30 beers consumed is a 42. its interesting when you have to figure out beer pacing so your round doesnât go to shit, end up just chugging crazy beers on 18
In true Refuge fashion, it looks like we have a political thread derailment amongst the NLU boys themselves - we got @soly with authoritarian/regulatory vibes clashing with @tron lassez faire approach, and @djpie apparently just wants to continue grooming us all for full immersion in this cult. No word yet on the Strapped Boysâ policy platforms.
Post that shit. The more interesting content there is to read and reply (on-topic) to, the less likely other threads are to go off the rails as people would be engaged in the shiny new thing.
I personally like some of the random thread diversions. I get from a brand standpoint it might not be the best, but when was the last time you sat down with a friend at a bar and only talked about one thing. I feel like I know a lot of people here way better than I otherwise would if everything stayed on topic, this maybe for better or worse depending on the case, but at a minimum it definitely keeps me more engaged here.
I think youâre cute too.
I had employment offers out of college (2001) from Apple, Microsoft, etc. A lot of money, or so I thought, until I looked at what it would cost to just LIVE in the area.
I took a job for half as much and lived twice as well in Delray Beach, FL, for 3 and a half years.
Oh, and if weâre getting back on topic now⌠Strapped is great! Iâd like to see more about why Randy ended up shooting 84 or whatever, though. You see putts without context sometimes and donât know if itâs for double or eagle.
Incredible timing
what happened to moving all the feedback discussion to the feedback thread
Mr. Pie, did anyone amongst you considered climbing the Whitney Peak hotel? Footage of one large Randel climbing the face of a hotel could be good #content
