Net Stroke Play

If i’m doing the math right, that’s a cadence of roughly 1 match per month, right? Trying to see if it make sense to register even if I have some September work travel out of state

I think there’s going to be some flexibility there, would imagine there will be plenty of opportunity for people to have matches at the first event too. @dshaddy @JShades33 can provide some insight as well.

There will definitely be some flexibility, especially in the first couple of rounds.

@payerasjl @nolan_thax @Juicy still got you guys on the wait list for the match play, checking to see if you guys still want in. thanks!

Won’t be able to commit to all the travel ( I travel a lot for work with little notice) so I am unfortunately out.

Good luck to all the FL ballers competing

I may have been a bit too optimistic with my available time to travel with both my kids starting sports this fall. I will humbly withdraw.

not sure if i should be posting here or any one of the other florida threads, but i’m looking for some advice. my brother lives in miami and i’m going to join him for an indeterminate amount of time starting in november. i know the area is…not great for public golf. coming from LA, though, i’m used to a drive. i know the park is not super close, but an hour could be worse. with jacked up rates for non-residents, i’m wondering if it’s worth it to try to establish residency (easier said than done, but it is what it is).

really just curious for thoughts in general, and i’d love to tee it up with anyone in the area. let me know!

The Florida residency rate at the park during season isn’t much of a deal, but I guess it’s better than out of state. Right now it’s on the order of $130+ on the weekends, in season it can get upwards of $200+ with their dynamic pricing. Cart fee is an additional $30, and they require caddies before 10am in winter which is like $120 + tip. Not really a place to view as a usual/regular course, it’s more akin to a resort destination course the way they operate/charge. (Note I live <0.5 miles north of the cutoff for the local residency rate, so I am ā€œbutt hurtā€ about it. It is a fantastic course, but I hate the operations and marketing of it)

My in laws used to live down in Miami, my go to courses were the biltmore (can be $$ and tough to get a tee time but is a quirky Donald Ross design), Crandon Park on key biscayne, and Miami Beach golf club.

Miami public Golf Scene is tough.
Miami shores has awesome greens and usually has em rolling fast.

Crandon is undergoing an intervention at the moment, only 9 holes are open.

Biltmore is pure but as mentioned it’s $$$ and usually packed.

Miami Beach is awesome. Great bones and usually decent conditioning but unfortunately there’s a lot of tourist golf so pace of play is slow and the greens are usually super hairy and slow.

Doral continues to be the best when you factor in conditions and pace of play.

I second the Shores - its my home course so hand up on bias - Its not overly pristine but they pay special attention to the quality and pace on the greens, which are very small. The course isn’t very long but the small, mostly turtleback style, greens keep things interesting. Pace can be slow but that’s anywhere on the weekends. The course is a fair deal for what you can get in the area.

Normandy, Miami Beach, and Biltmore are the other ones I would recommend. Miami Lakes is somewhere between decent and okay, but is even more expensive than Miami Shores and it floods easily, so I don’t play there very often but its not too bad. Grenada is a fun little 9 hole track in the heart of Coral Gables and worth a few loops.

In Fort Lauderdale, Emerald Hills, Jacaranda, and Planation Preserve are closer than the park and although not as nice, worth a few rounds while you’re down here.

I live in Miami so if you wanna get a round in shoot me a DM.

Any word on the Splash of OJ Fall Classic at Grand Cypress with the storm going through there? @Big_RanDeer

It’s probably going to be cart path only :disappointed_relieved:

Paging the Miami residents - headed down to Miami for a couple days for a work training this Saturday, and would appreciate any recommendations for:

  1. a cool spot to post up and watch college football on Saturday after my morning flight (training starts Sunday, so have the day)

  2. some good dinners, as I will be hotel-bound for breakfasts and lunches, but will be looking to get out and explore for dinners

Staying at the Kimpton Epic downtown for a locational reference, will not have a car but willing to Uber if worth it. Thank you in advance for the local guidance, and godspeed to you central Floridians

Hi y’all,

New to the refuge, roost, trust tree and soon-to-be Nest. A loooong time NLU patron from the early days but just never #gotinvolved until now. Been in Miami for a few years now and would love to connect with some like-minded local golfers in the area.

I’m also interested in dipping a toe or two into the event scene this year if there are any down my way.

Anyway, not sure if there’s any kind of etiquette on the intro here, but thanks for having me in your group!

We are devoid of etiquette for the most part, welcome to the roost my friend.
