Roll Call: Washington DC/DMV Area

Born and raised in Alexandria, and after 15 years im back. What exactly is the roost? I’d love to get in with a group and play some local spots.

TLDR: the NLU guys established regional “roosts” for Nest/Refuge members as a way of organizing qualifiers for the Nest Invitational Tournament. Each Roost has a captain (here, @RobertHunter) who organizes the local qualifier(s). Next one is the Loop at Langston on Saturday, not sure if it’s too late to sign up.

I’m also in ALX, not far off the Braddock Rd metro, so happy to get together for a round anywhere in the neighborhood sometime. Usually I either go up to East Potomac or out to Laurel Hill

I’m moving to the Washington area this fall after my wedding. We are going to be in town this weekend to do some apartment hunting. I have the 8am tee time at East Potomac for Friday morning if anyone wants to get a game going.

@RobertHunter

Can I get put into the whats app or what not a few months early?

absolutely, man. thought I already added you to everything but I guess not! you’re in the roost now, check out the welcome thread for all the links

I was at the East Potomac rage earlier today, and saw I delightful father in an NLU hat practicing pitch shots with their cute kid. I turned to the dad and said, “Nice hat!” only to receive a look reserved only for serial killers and NFT holders. If that was anyone here, I am sorry for scaring you.

Hey all! I’ve been lurking for a bit, and finally thought it would be proper to drop a couple of lines here. Born and raised in DC (currently reside uptown). I’m still developing my game (i.e., I still kinda suck–ha!), but at some point I’d like to get out there and play some rounds with some of you all. In the meantime, can I be added to the Roost?

We’ve got 2 roost meet ups happening in June. Sign up sheets posted above!

The WhatsApp group chat links should be posted earlier in the thread too

Hi, moved into the area (MD side of DMV) a few months ago and have only learned about this group today despite following NLU for a bit. Is it possible to join the Roost? Would love to be able to meet up and play with some people in the area.

Yessir! See event signups and whatnot above, welcome!

Also we are gonna need all the n00bs to declare their preferred local fried chicken sandwich supplier, totally not for hazing purposes.

When you say the MD side, how far north in MD are you? We have a Baltimore chat if you are more in that area.

Not a noob, but the correct answer is as follows:

  1. Local artisans: Roaming Rooster.
    1a: Chain: Popeyes spicy

No, I shan’t be taking questions at this time.

You’re goddamn right it is.

Bad news for the collective waistline, and apologies if reported earlier, but the roaming rooster has opened a retail location in Tyson’s.

In diligent service to the refuge, can report: hurt so good.

Right on the DC/MD border, so about an hour from Baltimore. Although my girlfriend’s family is about 20 minutes from Baltimore, so I’m in that area on occasion.

Kinda sad to admit that I’ve yet to have a chance to give Roaming Rooster a real try. And I’m actually in the middle of at least two of their locations. It’s on my list though.

Rooster news is never bad news for the waistline my friend.

Hey All - Rhode Island guy in need of some local knowledge.

My kids want to head down to DC for museums and monuments. There are a TON of hotels within walking distance of National Mall. The only times I have been to DC was in college playing basketball, and we went from hotel to arena and back - not much else.

Looking to go from Thursday to Sunday. Kids are 10, 8, and 4. What hotels should i consider? What to stay away from?

Much thanks.
