Roll Call: Washington DC/DMV Area

Depending on how much stub hub credit you have you can probably get a pass for that lot on there as well. Or a better lot. Since they suck right now you might find it cheaper on there.

1/2 Season Plan holder and Navy Yard resident here. Agree with the suggestion on Lot W. Based on what I see in the neighborhood on game days its definitely the easiest one to get in and out of with minimal traffic (avoids backups on S. Cap and 3rd Street). Looks like I can snag that same pass for $12 instead of $20. Let me know if that’d be helpful.

I went ahead and purchased a pass to this lot via stub hub credit, but much appreciated bro!

My wife and I are looking at spending 4 nights in the DC area for our anniversary. Unfortunately no golf involved. From a restaurant and ease of seeing some sights point of view, where do you recommend staying? We would like to walk the mall and visit the Smithsonian, but beyond that have no plans. Alexandria old Town looks nice, pentagon city has a ritz (hotel points) but really not sure where to stay.

As someone that lives in the Crystal City/Pentagon City area, I would recommend staying in somewhere in DC instead. There are some restaurants around here and it’s not inconvenient to get to the mall/smithsonian, but it gets pretty quiet around here at night and I think you’d have more options for whatever else interests you in DC. I’d probably recommend somewhere near Dupont Circle, but there are plenty of areas to choose from.

And definitely visit Old Town Alexandria. It’s a great area to spend an afternoon/evening.

I bring the family up for a weekend here and there. Def suggest staying in DC. Can uber or walk most places, parking is usually a semi bitch, and expensive af. So typically will drop the car once and uber.

One thing I really have enjoyed in the past, is the twilight/night time rooftop bus tours. Much cooler, gets you quick view of about everything, good for game planning what you want to spend more time doing, etc.

@joekrueg Ditto the night tour option! Walking the mall from the capitol to Lincoln at night is always a great stretch.

Places to stay within walking distance of major attractions & metros:

By the WH: The St Regis, The Hay-Adams, The Willard InterContinental, Sofitel Washington Square

Penn Quarter/Gallery Place (“downtown”): Riggs Washington DC, Conrad Washington DC, Marriott Marquis, the Renaissance.

DuPont Circle/Foggy Bottom: The Mayflower Hotel Autograph Collection, The Jefferson, The Ritz Carlton Washington DC, Park Hyatt Washington DC, The Mansion on O, The DuPont Circle Hotel

If you’ve got Marriott points to burn, I’d suggest the Ritz, Mayflower, Conrad, Marquis or Renaissance. And if you decide to spend a night in Old Town, the Alexandrian is part of Marriott’s Autograph collection and has prime real estate on King Street.

Golf might not be on your agenda but there’s nothing more quintessentially DC than playing East Potomac while Marine One does patrol laps right overhead. Happy to lend my clubs out if you find the time.

We hashed out restaurants in the WhatsApp thread the other day, here’s the clifnotes:

Steakhouses: Capital Grille, The Palm. If you prefer a shoe shine with your Manhattan before diving into a ribeye, hit the bar at Joe’s Seafood.

Adventurous palette: Compass Rose, Little Pearl, the Green Zone, Daikaya Izikaya, Maydan, Elcielo, Rasika, Daru, Swahili Village.

José Andrés: Jaleó, Oyamel, Zaytinya, minibar.

Italiano: Sfoglina, il Canale, Filomena, Two Amy’s, the chicken parm at The Palm.

‘Murican establishments: Jack Rose (also, whiskey), Old Ebbitt Grille, Clyde’s, The Hamilton.

Be seen & see people: Le Diplómate, Fiola Mare.

Don’t skip cheap eats: Roaming Rooster, Astro Doughnuts, Ben’s, Arepa Zone

Alexandria: Ada’s, Barca, Oak Steakhouse, Mason Social, La Bastille, Southside 815.

Sorry for the book report, it’s a quiet night shift.

Has anyone played Lake Presidential recently? Seeing some intriguing reduced rates, but wondering if the course may be in poor condition.

I played it a few weeks ago and conditions were really terrible, but they got multiple inches of rain the night before so who knows if that’s indicative of anything. The pace of play was more annoying than the conditions—we went out 2nd in the morning and played a five hour round.

Thanks, Robert. Playing early tomorrow morning, so pace should hopefully not be an issue. For $45 w/ cart I’m thinking it’s probably worth a shot. Haven’t played there in a while, but I know I’ve paid significantly more in the past.

Best of luck. I saw some pictures in a Maryland Golfers group on FB yesterday and it wasn’t in the best shape. It looked like they aerated the fairways so that could be the cause for the reduced rate (totally understandable this time of year) but some of the tees in the pictures were barren. Greens were in good shape apparently.

Anyone played Langston recently? Playing there Sunday morning for the first time and don’t know what to expect. Should be a good morning walk if nothing else!

They aerated the greens this week at Langston. Aside form that, it has been in really good shape most of this year compared to previous years.

Front 9 is pretty wide open. Holes 11-14 are really fun, especially if it is playing firm and fast.

Hey NLU–Please consider coming to the DC area for a No Laying Up Trifecta. Langston (Historic!), Rock Creek, East Potomac are classic for your model. I am a member at Army Navy and can help facilitate that if you want a “medium” cost course. My wife and I are retired Air Force–we live on Capitol Hill with plenty of room for the boys to board…and a great hub to work from. Let us know how we can help. Cheers, Thad & Chris 202-774-7252

Hey everyone!

I’m moving to DC for the year at the end of the month from California and would love some recs, tips, whatever you might have for me about living in the DMV.

A little about myself. I’m 32, single, working in campaign compliance. Gonna be living in Dupont Circle and my firm has a co-working space in Noma. I’m not bringing a car and gonna be living relatively close to a Metro station, so gonna be reliant on public transit and ride shares.

Got heavy into golf during the pandemic last year and found the NLU crew shortly after. I’ve played close to 15-20 rounds this year and shoot around 90-100. After taking a couple of lessons and getting some clubs in my bag fitted, I’m full on addicted and really want to explore what the area has to offer regarding golf as well.

So yeah that’s me, I’m open to any help and recommendations and would love to get a round in with anyone that’s down to show me around. Thanks!
