Headed out to the Omni HotSprings with my wife for Thanksgiving time (22nd-25th) if anyone out that way wants to try to get a round in at either of the two courses they have… or taking suggestions of other places around there to play.
I had an absolute blast today at The Federal Club with @Smidler and @needforspieth. The course was better than I imagined! The practice facility was great, the clubhouse top notch, and the vodoo wings were delicious. I cannot remember having a bigger grin on my face hours after a round like I did today. @Smidler is the best host you could hope for. Between the course knowledge and stories it felt like you had been playing there for years. His partner could have probably beat us with junior clubs and a balata. His game looked like TV golf and was a blast to watch. @needforspeith was a great cart partner; nothing phased him and his playlist kept us in it for the back nine. Cheers to The Refuge for making this bucket list round happen!
Thanks @Smidler for the hospitality! You were a great guide and gracious host. So glad we stuck it out and got some golf in. Ended up being perfect for fall golf at a great course. Fun times. Can’t wait to do it again!
I second that. You were a great cart-ner yourself. Appreciate you bringing the positive energy all day to the match and especially our cart. Had a blast!
Depending on how warm it is I’ll either be golfing or hunting those days and I’m about an hour out. Above 50 golf for sure.
I play at Independence but live in the city and was also planning to buy a membership at Belmont for anything under $2k or so to be able to go over there whenever I want. Sounds like the LPC membership is thinking the same thing.
What is it that you love about Independence?
Combo of price and course condition is unbeatable.
I haven’t been down there in forever. What are they charging now?
I pay just over $300/month. Greens fees there are like $110 during peak season/times, so the membership is a great deal.
Looking to do a day trip from Roanoke in December for a round somewhere nice/special. 3 hour drive is about my max.
Thinking Tobacco Road, but open to other suggestions. Trump National in DC? Richmond something? I could use my club to get on a private.
TR is not a bad a drive, I think it took me about 3, 3:15 on the way home last time. The length of the round there is what made the day extra long. I’ve been playing a lot at old white this summer, but unfortunately they shit down dec 1. I would avoid driving to DC unless you really have to, yes some great tracks there.
What week you thinking?
Week of Christmas… Sunday 12/20 or Monday 12/21 most likely
I played this week last year, was like 60. 2 years ago, was like wicked snow. I would think south of the blue ridge would be better weather wise.
If your private club has enough clout, you could attempt to get on The Olde Farm. It’s worth a shot, just don’t get your hopes up!
Primland is not a bad drive either if you haven’t played there
Was going to follow @Sixcat suggestion and say, if your club is at the level where it’s a possibility, check out Kinloch. Trump National will be playing their composite course at that time, as opposed to having their full championship course or river course available.
That’s cool And what I’m paying for an individual golf membershp at LPC.
In December, I would recommend heading south to NC. Weather can be so hit or miss Richmond and north. If you can get on Kinloch, coming to Richmond is not a bad option. Probably around $300 all in once you include the caddie, etc.
@WaterHazard if you can get on Kinloch, I’d you’ve gotten a guy right here who would be thrilled to accompany
