Roll Call: Virginia

I’m a little over an hour northwest of DC. My friends and I are always looking for cool places to go for something a little different and SH9 seems to be perfect, except for the 2 hour drive…

I’ve just joined the Refuge, and thought I’d throw my name in here. I live in Reston, play golf at Stoneleigh GC in Round Hill.

Fairfax County golf courses closed through March 29. Glad I got out to hit some balls yesterday…

Just got out yesterday…
Finished out with a 4 putt to lose my match

SICK!

where did you play?

damn nothing down here in Roanoke but Im sure its coming. One more afternoon round tom would be ok with me tho

Greendale a crap place, but it was last minute
Was down 3 at the turn got to 2 up with 3 to go and lost 1 down with a four putt to close it

Just finished a walk with the fiancée past laurel hill and the flag sticks are out

Sad times

gotcha…buddy of mine’s club had a match at ft belvoir sunday, thought you might have been a part of that

tough way to end a match though, sheesh

The fairfax location has a great practice facility

Last played their in march ‘18 and was awesome

Used to play a ton back in 06-11 and then it went under crazy hard times with lots of owners and such.

Pete Dye River course, hot rates online for 40.50 all day long saturday. Either they punched or that place is getting no play right now.

Tech and Radford are both closed. No student play. That is a significant portion of their tee times.

I live about 45 mins away and jumped all over a saturday hot rate at 34. Unheard of. I figured they might be closed with the school, but roll on

hmmm, by that logic tee times would be super cheap when school was out of session in the summer too…

FWIW I played it for $34 on a monday afternoon in September and it was e m p t y.

that’s a pretty good deal. As a local, I typically refuse to pay more than $55 for 18 there, but midday saturday for 34 is my all time low there.

Lot’s of students hang (at least in Bburg) all summer, with a light or non-existent course load. When I was down there, we played twice a week all summer. Granted, that was at the on campus course, the River Course didn’t exist.

interesting…blacksburg and radford always seemed like ghost towns to me in the summer.

nobody i knew that went to either school lived there year round

the river course still runs students like 25. And its almost 30 mins from campus, living area. I haven’t ever seen that place packed except on a home football weekend if its warm.

Had my bachelor party there. Shout out @fore20 for being in attendance, framing my scorecard for me

I worked in bars downtown. A lot of the folks in those circles stick around. There is enough work over the summer to make it worth staying. Plus, a non-trivial portion of that cohort are “just like, taking a break from school, man. I’ll probably go back when I have saved up some cash” (proceeds to spend $300/wk on drugs).

The group I played golf with and that group didn’t overlap a lot.
