A nightmare. I workout in my garage and I’ve had close calls, I can’t imagine being stuck on the side of the road.

Locals almost always take Route 52 from Mount Airy to Hillsville then Route 100 to Pulaski to avoid I-77. I have literally had 3 tickets in my life. All 3 were on I-77 in this stretch. One of those was for 68 in a 65. Not even joking. Refused to pay the fine early and showed up in court. The judge laughed and said “you gotta be kidding me?” and dismissed the ticket.

I have heard of cops arresting out-of-town off duty cops for speeding 10 over in that part of Virginia. Absolutely one of the worst parts of the country to drive in. Virginia as a whole is more strictly policed on the roads than most other states, but the difference between NoVa and down there is stark

Jesus. About 2 years ago I was flying for work for a week, put pre-workout in a ziplock bag and wrote “pre-workout” on the baggie and somehow didn’t get searched. God forbid you drive your car with it in there.

A Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested the Chief of Police of the Town of Hillsville (A Carroll County Town) about 5 years ago. It’s a complete shitshow in this neck of the woods.

I had finished about 3/4s of it in the bottle, but I had spilled some on my console and dash. He said it looked like I was using coke and all jacked up… ummmm do you know what pre work is intended to do officer?
When i asked him to dip his finger in it and taste it, he really got pissed. I have a framed letter of apology from the county, I’ve even had to work fire call scenes with the dude after.

29 on the way back north from Smith Mountain Lake. Sat on the side of the highway as 3 Albemarle Deputies tried to find batteries to breathalyzer me…at 9am. Not fun.

The engineering firm I used to work for had a project in Albemarle County about 20 years ago. Me and a coworker were on a site visit very early on in the design phase. An Albemarle Deputy “detained” us for over two hours claiming we were “disturbing equine burial grounds.”
As someone that grew up in rural SWVA, parts of Virginia are definitely unique. I’ll leave it at that.

If “disturbing equine burial grounds” was a legit crime I would be serving a life sentence for shenanigans committed in the environs of the burial place of Robert E Lee’s horse, Traveler, whose barn was right across from my dorm in college.

You may be getting your wish. Allegedly (read: huge mouthful of salt with this rumor), when W&L was considering dropping the L from its name, a wealthy pro-Lee alumnus pledged to buy Lexington CC and donate it to the university and spend ~ 15 million on revamping it, in exchange for them keeping the Lee name. Please do not take this as established fact, this is just what I’ve heard thru the alumni grapevine. I’ll believe it when I see it, but given the history of the school and the alumni base, IMO it would be par for the course of exorbitant W&L alumni spending with strings attached.

Lex Cc absolutely has great bones. Would love to pick it up and drop it closer to me, it would be a great replacement for Greendale or some of the other meh public tracks near me in Alexandria. If it got more play I imagine they could have enough income from greens fees to really maintain it.
