Roll Call: Virginia

National Links TRoost was proposed, but it ultimately makes less sense if it ends up as all of VA. I guess a lot depends on where the initial battle lines are drawn.

Basing this solely off my NLU meet ups and events experience…

VA will have to take on at least WV and DC to get going. It may even even up being MD as well.

We can always change the name depending on the region NLU sets. They said there will be 10 regions with 2 clubs per region. There maybe a lot of Nest members in our region but not everybody is active or “involved” Currently on the DMV roosts spread sheet we only have 21 nest members interested with 9 MD, 8 VA and 4 in DC. Sure this is in the early stages but I don’t see 40 more people coming out to balance each group. There is going to have to be some melded groups this year at the start.

Go through your area roll call threads and you will see that there is a small core of people who are repeat posters. We can still have State vs. State events with in a larger roost.

If we need to start out as all VA or DMV, I’m sure we’ll make it work. I’m making an assumption here, but if you add the 13 of us playing in the Belmont matchplay in with the rest of the DMV, that’s a pretty solid start.

Totally agree. The Belmont Match Play is a solid event. Here in DMV we tried a quota series over the summer and it struggled. Baby steps for sure. Summers in DC are diff than the rest of the US. Most people here are transients so the people here disperse. The Roost will be the kick in the a$$ to get the motivated group we already have here to go “full send”. Looking forward to the upcoming season!

Don’t I know it. I spent a couple years in Arlington right out of college in the '90s, driving down to Suffolk nearly every weekend to see my girlfriend. I couldn’t get out of town fast enough.

Weather will definitely be great. I know because I am coaching two basketball games just far enough apart to eat my whole day. Weather is guaranteed to be beautiful.

How was Langston? And when does the renovation start?

Great time today as we had 8 players and fantastic weather. Renovation overall probably won’t start for a few years. Still early in the planning and fundraising stages. That have cleared out a lot of brush recently and have improved the bunker sand. Most of the visible work is at the range with new mats and a lot of new range balls.

Any word on our local Roost? From the spreadsheet, it looks like there’s plenty of us if we lump MD/VA/DC into a single Roost.

In the final stages of getting logos and things put together. We’ve definitely got enough locals, question is whether it’ll be a Virginia/Maryland split or one big happy family.

Based on the 20 Roost target, I expect it will need to be DMV for year 1.

I’m not a huge fan because getting to NoVa and MD for events will suck big time. I also think most (accessible) golf in NoVa and DC stinks. When the DMV chat is talking Twin Lakes, and East Potomac and the CLC is talking about MP/PN/SP and Tobacco Road my desire to head north drops significantly.

I think there would be plenty to have a VA roost, but for it to make sense the NoVa guys would need to be part of it, and for them DC/MD may make more sense.

Related - Charlotte is pursuits own group independent of the rest of the CLC. I can’t imagine they will give NC two spots in yr 1.

Yeah I’m kind of in that middle area myself. Its 4 hours to DC for me. its 90 minutes to Greensboro, 3.5 to Pinehurst, 3 to Charlotte. IDK that a VA roost is my best bet?

This first year the roosts will have people spread out for sure. I fell we are gonna be more of a Mid-Atlantic Roost overall and then we can have divisions with in that roost.

If one state could qualify and support two roosts it would definitely be NC.

I don’t disagree here, but I’m down for whatever this first year. I have a feeling that our little band of troublemakers here in RVA are going to create our own fun regardless of where boundary lines are drawn. And being the gracious hosts we are, we’ll include everyone in on it.
