Roll Call: Virginia

Hello friends! I’m living in NC right now, but I am visiting my parents in Richmond, Va. the first week of November. Im also taking a longer, rolling, solo golf trip around Va (harrisonburg->Charlottesville->Richmond-> final stop in Va Beach)
-Anyone interested in meeting up at:
C-Ville: Spring Creek or Old Trail (Nov 3rd)
Richmond: Belmont, Royal New Kent (Nov 4th)

I’m at the point in the year when I put the woods > golf for about 6 weeks or so, but if I happen to get lucky and take my buck early in the year, I’ll be back to golf and interested.

So I’m leaving Virginia at the beginning of the year. Looking to catch some courses that are must plays. I’ve played everything in the Hampton roads area and Williamsburg that are public anyway. Most of the outer banks courses.
But I’m looking for some must plays before I leave the state up north. Trying to plan a 3-4 day road trip the first week of November. 3rd through the 7th. Could flex a day or two either way.
But any recommendations would be cool. Kind of dumb when it comes to courses outside my local ish area.

long shot here but I am going up to NOVA with a buddy on friday night, staying over in manassas, looking to play up that way sometime sat morning or midday if anyone got anything

If you make it as far north as the DMV, Laurel Hill. Big bang for buck with afternoon tee times. Mornings are a bit pricey.

I’m caddying for my son in his end of season event, otherwise would have been delighted to host. Safe travels!

Our plans have semi shifted for saturday, with the early cold, gonna get further south a bit and play around harrisonburg I think. Anyone played out at Lakeview there? Anyone interested in playing around harrisonburg with us saturday around like 11/12ish holler at me

I’ve heard about Laurel Hill, is there another course around there I’d like to get 36 in if I make it all the way up there. I’m in Chesapeake so it’s a bit of a hike.

If you wanna do 36, best place to do that is Twin Lakes. They have two courses. So you can play both, or do 1 and TL and 1 at LH or somewhere else.

Potomac Shores is nice and just south of LH.

I’ve heard Potomac Shores is good.
I actually have Twin Lakes on my list. This trip is quickly getting out of hand. Too many courses to hit.
Has anyone played Shanendoah Valley to Blue Ridge Shadows. Is it just a scenery thing that makes them good or is it worth it?

Shenandoah is funny with bowling green right there.

Been a few years. Solid course. Didn’t think too much about it.

I like blue ridge shadows better.

So my list just from reading and the couple recommendations.
Stonewall
Bull Run
Twin Lakes
Westfields
Dogwood Trace
Laurel Hill
Heritage Lake
Independence

I’d like to get it down to 5 maybe 6 really good courses. Trying to maximize the travel so there’s a little bias towards that as far as not have a ton of on road time.
But I’ll have the time to add a day to the trip if I need to.
Recommendations from here, courses I’m missing. Courses to eliminate.

Played Independence last week, is in pristine condition. Laurel Hill is also firming up and looking nice.

Stonewall is a great course, bonus that you get to see RTJ across the lake! Laurel Hill gets the nod if you are in NoVA. I like Shen Valley over Blue Ridge Shadows for there are 3 9s. Twin Lakes isn’t memorable, but the woods is better than the lakes course. Independence is a great course and the Tavern 19 has killer food.

If your coming up 95, check out Pendleton, I agree that Stonewall is a top course up here. You can play Bull Run or Bristow Manor near Stonewall if trying to get in 36. Laurel Hill is top notch as well. Pohick bay and Forest Greens are close to Laurel Hill but I would say Pendleton is way better. Another course you could get to from LH or Stonewall is Westfields.

Go Hoos. If you’re around Grounds at lunchtime, Take it Away is a good sandwhich shop with some sick house dressing on the Corner. Right next to it is a little dumpling shop that’s also good. I can’t speak to much else since I graduated 12+ years ago and it’s a new town compared to then.
