@Chadvb Settlers Ghost in Barrie is a good one. Haven’t played much out that way, but also heard Bear Creek and Tangle Creek are good which are out in Barrie.
I’ve played Tangle a handful of times and have always enjoyed my time there. Would definitely recommend
Just joined The Refuge after being a “long time listener”.
Been playing out of the Hamliton area the past few years (GAO Public Player). Always looking for some meetups in the area with some like-minded NLU-ers.
Another Vancouver Leftie!
It looks like I’ll be flying in to Montreal on Canadian Thanksgiving. Are there any courses in, or around Montreal worth me bring my clubs with to play at?
Hey Everyone,
Nice to see a decent community of NLU fans from Cananda. I’m in Toronto and mostly play the muni’s (Don Valley, Tam O’ Shanter) but try and get around outside of the City when I have access to a car. I know we are running out of good weather but always happy to set up a game.
Hey Everyone,
Just moved to Calgary this year, wasn’t able to play much but did get out to Heritage Pointe a few times. Looking now at the amount of snow, golf feels so far away! Anyone go to the Golf Canada range during the winter?
Sherwood Park (by way of New Brunswick) checking in.
Calgary, Checking in.
@CL83 and @tommymac also YYC here.
I don’t touch the clubs until the courses open, used to frequent Golf Canada range in the winter and its a good set up unless the wind is into you (just f’n cold). It just got purchased so will be interesting to see what it becomes
CL83 - where are you coming from? HP is great although pricey, I worked there for 2 summers in university (over 10 years ago now). I am a member at Sirocco and recommend checking it out. If you are curious about any other courses, let me know, played a decent majority of them. I am assuming you are in the south based on the HP comment, i grew up in the south (now live in the west)
For all Canadians - Taylormade Canada Black Friday and Holiday sale (not sure what end date) has some pretty awesome deals.
Grew up in the Edmonton area, and have pretty much been everywhere in Alberta. Coming back to Calgary after 5 years in Seattle. I actually live in Okotoks so Sirocco is close, never had the chance to get out there this summer but I’ve heard good things. I’m also very close to D’Arcy Ranch and was thinking about checking it out next summer.
Signing in from the GTA. Mostly play out of my home course about an hour and a half from Mississauga. Finally got around to joining because of The Nest.
I started playing more around 3 years ago and have since dropped from a 26 cap to a 14. Looking forward to making some more improvement next season.
D’Arcy is fun, haven’t played it recently so not sure on how good of shape it gets in. Its worth checking out but not the “i want to play everyday” kind of course. I know a handful of ppl who play the men’s night there and they all comment its well run.
Rivers Edge is pretty fun as well. The contrast between the nines get to me a bit.
I grew up playing highwood so it has a special place in my heart, but in reality its nothing special. Spitzee/Heritage nines is worth playing once a year.
Sirocco - I am completely biased but its the best of the bunch in the south. The valley it sits in is just special and you would never guess you are just minutes from the city. The layout is great and offers variety. I also enjoy the challenge of it, most ppl find it hard. Really good men’s night as well haha, if you can escape to play on Wednesdays.
Make sure you get out to Kananaskis mid/late season, its completely worth it especially at the AB residents rate.
Good to hear, seems like there are a lot of good course around the South. Can’t wait to get out to the mountains as well.
Definitely interested in some good Men’s nights.
Checking in from Newmarket. Another Canadian golfer staring miserably at his clubs as the snow falls…
Hey there, checking in from the Comox valley on Vancouver Island. Recently transplanted from Vancouver. Haven’t managed to explore too much of the golf scene in my new part of the world yet. Crown Isle and Glacier greens are the courses I’ve played in town so far. They seem fine and fun and a whole lot cheaper than the golf in Vancouver. I’ve heard good things about Stoney/Storey Creek in Campbell River and Pheasant Glen in Qualicum so looking forward to playing those in the spring.
Always looking for like minded golfers that are happy to play year round! (They invented gore-Tex for a reason)
Welcome to the Refuge.
Its been over 10 years since playing on the island but particularly remember loving Storey Creek and Morningstar. Happy golfing!
Welcome. I try to get up that way to play Crown Isle at least once a year. Storey Creek is a nice layout, tight in places. I’ve only ever played Morningstar in Parksville (when it was going through a tough time; I understand it may be on better footing now).
Good to have another Islander on here. Let me know if you’re down this way and want to get together for a round.
I have a colleague who just retired to that neck of the woods and now he sends photos of him golfing while we’re shovelling.
It sure is nice to play year round! Was out twice last week.
I’ll have to add Morningstar to the list, thanks for that rec.
Haven’t played in Victoria yet @MarkInVictoria but certainly will hit you up if I head down that way. Cheers! Do the same if you head up to the mid-island and are looking for a game.
