Roll Call: The Duck Club | Canadians, Beer and Cow Pastures

Spent a week in PEI and played five courses last summer. It depends on logistics and if this an extension of the bachelor party. Here are some quick thoughts, but you need a car. Getting rides around is very difficult outside staying in Charlottetown.

Crowbush is obviously the most highly regarded course, and best fit based on the itinerary you have already. You can stay on site too at their hotel, but are more limited to just there for golf.

We stayed in Cavendish and there are four courses within ten minutes of each other. Not a lot of nightlife but you can easily rent cabins to yourselves.

If you want more going on closer by you’ll need to stay in Charlottetown, but still options for golf not too far away. And really not that far (relatively speaking) if you want to travel there and back from most of the courses on the island.

I would reach out to Golf PEI. The staff were great to deal with and it was very smart of them to create this non for profit golf trip planner. One stop shopping for accommodations and tee times booked well in advance.

I am firmly in the camp of PLAY NORTHUMBERLAND if you’re driving between locales. Flying in to Charlottetown it wouldn’t make any sense, but if you’re driving from Halifax (or to / from Cabot) its 100% worth a stop.

Crowbush and Dundarave are my two personal favourites on PEI. Part of the same ownership group and can normally get stay and play packages to stay at either resort and play both courses (or Brudenell River which is the other course where Dundarave is). Crowbush resort is nicer than Brudenell. ~30 mins between the two and then ~40 mins to Charlottetown.

If in those areas, highly suggest taking the ferry on your way to Cape Breton instead of the bridge. Cuts down significantly on driving time. If in Cavendish area, take the bridge both ways.

Personally, I’d skip Crowbush. It’s nice, but post hurricane I think it’s very overpriced for what it brings to the table relative to some of the other courses in the area. We played Green Gables and Brudenell River and I thought both were better value than Crowbush. If I was going on a buddies trip for a couple nights, I’d stay in Charlottetown and drive to your course. There’s lots of good golf within an hour drive of Charlottetown. We stayed at the Arts hotel which was cheap, and within walking distance of everything.

Hell yeah. Definitely hit Northumberland. It’s kind of Heathlands-ish above the road, then you head down towards the water and its links. They’ve tweaked a couple holes recently, especially along the coastal stretch. And they were the best greens I played in NS by a mile.

Cool as hell, wildly good value, and a total locals-only / hidden gem situation. It’s just in an awkward spot for PEI and Cabot unless you’re on the road. Which you will be!

Appreciate this reco! The top courses in the area seem pretty unanimous - but I have trust issues with rankings… any fan of Tarandowah is a voice i can trust

Yes, it’s still winter. No, we’re not happy about it. But! To whet your whistle for the upcoming golf season here in Ontario, the Duck Club’s Annual Season Kick-Off call is happening Wednesday, Feb 19, 2025, 8pm – 9pm (ET). Mark your calendars. I’ll drop the link here closer to the date.

We’ll go over this year’s event schedule, our season-long competition, the road to the Roost Club Championship, and answer any burning questions you might have. Or maybe we’ll leave them unanswered because that might keep you coming back. Who knows.

New Roost members are always welcome. #GetInvolved

Following up from our kick off call last week, here’s the 2025 Duck Club Players’ Package.

The package which goes into a bit more detail about some of the topics covered on Wednesday and include a bunch of useful links that were mentioned on the call.

As a big O365 guy it pains be to be sharing a google doc but I’ll take one for the team here.

I am planning a western Québec Trip this August 14-17 (Thurs-Sun). Below is the preliminary itinerary I have done (subject to change of course). If anyone is interested send me a DM for more info. Right now there are 4 or 5 people interested, I would like to get a group of 6-8 to try to do some sort of low-stakes team competition.
