Six other members of the Duck Club and I have planned a Scotland trip to East Lothian and Fife for this June 9th to June 15th (flying out on June 16th). Unfortunately, one person in our group has just received a promotion and is now making too much money too busy to book the time off for the trip. If there is anyone that is crazy enough to join us and fill his spot, please let me know. If we do not find anyone by mid-March we will cancel the spot. Below is an itinerary of our trip along with costs (in Canadian dollars). The first leg of our trip is in East Lothian and we will be staying in Dunbar and the second part is Fife where will be staying in St. Andrews.

To confirm your presence on this trip we need a downpayment of $1821.19. If you are in the states, an American couple on our trip has paid up using PayPal, so that would be the best way to send the money. Additional tee time costs, hotel rooms and rental car costs will be around $2191.34. I also have estimated that we will use about $100 each in gas.

A couple notes

-We did not secure any tee times for the Old Course or the New Course through the advanced lottery. So, we are planning on driving to St. Andrews after our round at North Berwick in order to do the queue if we are unsuccessful in the ballot.

-If we do get Old Course tee times and we are done early enough, I might be crazy enough to try to squeeze in 9 at Anstruther (this might be far too much golf, but we will see).

So far $1651.17 of the golf has been paid with an additional downpayment of $179.55 for Dunbar due on April 12, 2024 and $139.24 for Kilspindie due on May 26, 2024. The rest can be paid on the day of play.

In Dunbar we are staying at the Bayswell Park hotel for two nights at a total cost of $309 (this needs to be paid before the trip).

In St. Andrews we are staying at the University for a total cost of $170.02 (This has already been paid, so would need to be paid at the same time as the current Golf downpayment)

Then for the last night in Edinburgh we are staying at the Ibis Budget Hotel Edinburgh Park at a cost of $99 (this payment has not been finalized yet).

For rental cars: we have two cars that cost a total of $2000 for the trip for 5 people (the other 2 people are a couple and are renting their own vehicle), for a cost of $400 each. This payment has also not been finalized.

Wow that’s such a shame, devastating for the guy who can’t go. It’s very cool that you offer it up here. Golden ticket to have a trip already planned and just have to say yes!

Won’t work for me this time, but definitely taking notes on itinerary. Don’t be surprised if you get a message from me in a couple years asking about this. Enjoy!

For future help I might be charging for my services to cover the cost of this trip :stuck_out_tongue:

Good Morning my friends to the North.
I’ll be in Montreal for a week for work in March. Looking for a recommendation for a good area to stay and any restaurant recommendations.

My initial research came up with Griffintown or Milton Parc as a decent spot to stay. Work will be more towards the airport.

Thank You! And would love to meet up for a drink with anyone.

Hey,

Montreal recs have come up once or twice - a ton of good info up-thread -

Take a scan through these and let us know if you have questions!

Stay in Old Montreal if you can.

Morning Mr Waffles!

Bona fides : From Ottawa. 29 yo. Not willing to fight. I’ve lived on the south shore of Montreal now for about 10 years and go to Montreal quite a bit. Here a some quick hits :

Neighbourhoods :

  • Pointe-Saint-Charles/Verdun is my fave. It used to be a ghetto-adjacent area but has been gentrified quite a bit. Hipster vibes, lots of cool spots to eat and drink. Not too far away from the vieux-port which is the more touristy area (probably more expensive to stay there as well). Lots of stuff on Wellington street.
  • Griffintown is very nice as well! Even closer to the vieux-port and a bit closer to downtown.
-Milton Park I don’t go there very often. Close to the Mont Royal which is always nice for a stroll.

Drink :

  • Messorem Bracitorium (PSC, hipster brewery with great beer garden)
  • Dieu du Ciel (Downtown, See above). Right next to Siboire brewery as well.
  • Pit Caribou (Plateau)

Eat :

  • Fugazzi Pizza (Better for takeout/quick eat. Although the one on rue Centre has a speak-easy up top called Milky Way if you like that fancy cocktail vibe. You can order up some pizza from there.
  • Fleurs et cadeaux (chinese quarter DT) : Very good japanese sushi and sashimi
  • Ayla (meditteranean) : Small plates/tapas style. Better with a big group
  • Verdun Beach
  • Satay Brothers (Saint-Henri near marché Atwater, bao buns and other such foods)
  • Alep/Petit Alep (Petite Italie, Mediterranean)
  • Pichai (Plateau Mont-Royal, thai)
  • Elena (Saint-Henri, Italian/Pizza)
  • Vin mon lapin ($$$, never been but apparently bougee if ever you’re looking to spend some dough)
  • Dogheria Fine (Mile End, All they do is takeout gnocchi with a great tomato sauce. Straight fire). It is right next to the original Fairmount Bagel location (authentic Montreal Style Bagel). Also, right next to Kem Coba which is a really cool ice cream place with tons of funky flavors. St-Viateur is the other original MTL bagel (Mile End)
  • Schwartz : Definitely a Montreal establishment. You’ll almost certainly wait in line quite a bit. You’re getting a very solid and authentic, yet probably slightly overrated, Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich with a pickle on the side.

To see :

  • Mont Royal Lookout (Park near Chalet du lac des castors and walk over to Belvédère Kondiaronk)
  • Stroll around vieux-port
  • Stroll around marché Atwater (large indoor/outdoor market) and near water of Canal Lachine

Feel free to DM when you’re here. I’m down for a drink

Almost forgot,

  • Restaurant au pied de cochon ($$-$$$, Plateau) : Qc establishment. Owned by renowned Qc chef Martin Picard. He strives to bring that Cabane à sucre (sugar shack)/Farm-to-table food to the next level. The staple there is the Foie gras Poutine.

Mon Lapin and PDC are must-visits for me whenever I’m in town. Wildly different styles, but both brilliant. Can’t say enough good things about them if you want something super impressive!

I just appreciate the time and effort this took.

Toronto peeps, I will be in town Saturday-Tuesday and looking for some brewery / bar and restaurant recommendations as it’s been a while since I spent any meaningful time in the city. Staying in Financial District. Thanks!

Paging our resident Bay St Boi @noslenod for tips, but holy smokes you’re spoiled for choice.

My first recs are all slightly NW of right downtown - Bellwoods brewery is one of Toronto’s finest, and in a neighbourhood full of good stuff. Cocktail Bar on Dundas is my favourite spot for … cocktails. And Pompette has become one of Phil’s go-tos for great French food and a solid wine list.

Food wise, are you looking for casual / upscale / any specifics in terms of styles?

I’ve got a bunch of east end recommendations if you’re planning on venturing out that far including the best pizza in the city.

El Ray Mezcal Bar in Kensington is also a wicked Mexican joint
