Agree with this, Cobble is generally fine, but not a lot of standout holes to me. Lora Bay has a lot more going for it and isn’t as far
Thanks. Staying up in Stokes Bay so trying to keep the drive under an hour. But that could always be up for debate
Played Cobble last time i was up there for work and loved it. Really cool views. Was 100+ but i thought most everything was great. That said i would Def check out lora or blackhorse if i go back. Saugeen also has 27 holes so can spread play out. The rough is no joke. Lush and thick there. The patio looking over the green is very nice. The Links course isn’t horrible and can spray the ball around a bit.
Just got done at Cobble.
Course was great. Members I played with were friendly. Views were actually only so-so due to smoke in the area. But overall, what a great morning on the bay.
Which brings me to my next point… am I allowed to tell people about Bruce Peninsula? As we leave tomorrow am I going to be required to sign an NDA? How is this place not crawling with tourists. Went to the national park yesterday. Unbelievable! The weather has also been in the 80s so we lucked out but I cannot believe how great this area is.
Give it a few weeks and it gets NUTS. Last time I wanted to go up there on a whim we found exactly one camping spot within an hour of Tobermory, and all the fun beaches and caves and whatnot were fully booked for parking. It gets hectic once schools kick out for sure.
But holy shit how good is the water up there! Paddling around the beaches and islands and swimming where you please is a GOAT-level weekend.
Yea when school gets out it will change. But it is Def nice and has its good times.
Quick question, if a course isn’t on Golf Canada app can you count a round towards your handicap? Caradoc Sands, St. Clair Parkway and BlackHorse don’t seem to show up there. Is there a way to enter an anonymous course? They do show up on the Grint, which has a different handicap system.
Email them. I’ve had no problem getting tees added. Just send a picture of the score card showing slope/rating
Alas, no - GC rated ones only. I’m actually at Black Horse today with a couple Duckers who are members out here - we’re laughing about the fact they can’t post their scores from “home”.
Or do what Sarah says which makes more sense!
They’ll show up on Grint because it’s mainly just a GPS app. So as long as they can see the course on Google Maps, they can add it.
If it’s not a GC member course, you won’t be able to post the score to count towards your handicap since it doesn’t have an official rating.
I could be wrong about adding entire courses then! But know it’s doable with tees (ie forwards or combos not on golf Canada but rated by course )
Duck Club - I need some help. I’m getting swooped into Cambridge/Guelph region on short notice this week, but if I’m going to travel for work they’re going to pay for me to golf. What’s my best local options for play? Bonus points for food/beer suggestions
There is a bunch of KW oriented folks here. I’m personally from Cambridge. Locally I would recommend Rockway, Guelph Lakes, Copetown, Wildwinds, Grey Silo are all pretty good options. We have a few of the crew who are members at Deer Ridge and Whistle Bear two pretty nice private options and you may be able to work a round in there somewhere.
Foodwise Guelph is pretty awesome, you can go downtown walk two feet and find a decent option.
Cambridge is pretty meh.
Golf: In Guelph Springfield is a fun little track, Victoria Park East is pretty fun too. As B Corbs mentioned we do have some members at privates around there.
Food: In Guelph, The Fat Duck pub is awesome, Borealis is very good. Crafty Ramen is solid. Baker Street Station. Earth to Table Bread Bar. Spring Mill Distillery and Royal Electric for cocktails.
In Kitchener/Waterloo (near cambridge) - Lancaster BBQ, Grand Trunk Saloon (amazing cocktails too), Bauer Kitchen, Arabesque. Sugar Run and Grand Surf Lounge (sister of Grand Trunk).
Beer: Wellington Brewery and Royal City in Guelph. Stay away from Waterloo Brewing.
Was just there for lunch today, can confirm it still fucking slays, and I was getting meat sweats three ribs in.
Portions are ridiculous and the food is soooooo good. Vibe is sick and some wicked cocktails and beers if you into that stuff.
Whenever I’m back we order a mixed platter with pulled pork, chicken, brisket, and sausage, then mac and cheese, collard greens, dill coleslaw, and tater tots.
It was pulled pork, ribs, mac, fries for us today, but than I killed my kids chicken because I wasn’t paying for him not to eat.
There are regrets right now.
What kind of golf are you liking for? Classic/modern, muni/private?
Arabella Beer Park by far the best place for craft beer in the region. They have decent food too, but not a full blown restaurant…
Honestly just something worth the price of admission. I’ll be in town early afternoon tomorrow after ~4.5hrs driving, so I’m hoping to avoid anything too far out of town, but beyond that I’ll have nothing to do but twiddle thumbs till some meetings the next morning.
If there’s somewhere worth playing it’s always nice to make the most of these trips.
