Hope to thin one and skirt just under the tree.
Also, I’m eying a Victoria trip in April. Will finally have to get out and play this course.
I feel like you’ve tried that before?!? What’s your body count at? ![]()
There may be a Victoria event in the development stage for April… @MarkInVictoria
My lawyers advised me not to answer that question.
Having said that, this year I ended up exactly 90 yards left of the green (thanks Bushnell) trying to hit a huge slicing hybrid out the rough and around a tree that did not curve an inch.
Yeah, Jason touches on this in his article. He, unlike I, is a journalist and went to sources. I just wrote up an opinion piece about the course, changes and why I like it so much.
But yeah, you are on the right track I think we need to have a sink hole on the 8th green and the hill on 12 collapse/slide in order to get the two major remaining projects done.
Well well well. Many good things happen in april, this could be another. I’ll have to pay attention when more info comes up.
In case anyone wants to follow along…we bought a house at Cabot and named it “Cabot Cottage”. Renovations are ongoing but here’s a sneak peek. Follow on Instagram (@cabot_rentals)
Soooooo when are the invites going out???!
I’m looking to go hit a simulator somewhere this week. KW, Brantford, Hamilton area if anyone has interest in a faux round.
Westjet is offering direct Calgary to Edinburgh now, so I take this as a sign. Shall we start calling some tour agencies?
I have a call with TJ from GolfAwayTours tomorrow. He has been away the last few months and I was not in a rush. Will get back to you all soon
Nice!
To all those with interest in a Scotland trip in 2024 here are some more details. We should try and arrange a call to discuss so we can get back to TJ sometime in 2023 to start the process.
If everyone can DM me their email or post it in the Google Sheet I can get a group call setup at some point.
If we want to start a what’s app chat that might help with coordinating a date/time to discuss.

As a reminder this is what I put a request in about:
Day 1: Arrival and opening round at Kilspindie
Day 2: Muirfield if at all possible / Gullane 1 and 2 if not at Murfield
Day 3: North Berwick
Day 4: Old Course - some of us are also ok with waiting out overnight to get tee times, so we may not need to book this.
Day 5: Elie
Day 6: Cruden Bay and Cullen
Day 7: Royal Dornoch and Brora
Day 8: Back to Edinburgh
- As is, this trip is going to be quite difficult to accomplish because the driving is quite a lot after St. Andrews area. The trip is doable if we remove/replace Cruden Bay and Cullen. But I know this was important for some of you.
- TJ, like others in this thread have suggested, mentioned trying to stick to St. Andrews and East Lothian areas for the group. Lots of options for GREAT golf here and not as much driving.
- June is a great month to go. Good weather, busy but not overly busy like summer. September if doing St. Andrews is an awful time to go.
- Murfield is possible. Ballots/applications open in Feb 2023 for 2024. They do sell out rather quickly.
- Everything else opens in April/May for 2024 applications
- Shouldnt have too much trouble except with St. Andrews. But there are options to get on which we can discuss
- Cost: By 2024 each golfer is likely looking at $1200 per day (in 2022 he said average was $1000/day but prices going up everywhere) - this covers golf at premium courses, a driver for a large group, a decent hotel (with breakfast included) close to amenities and golf. Other costs like pro shop, flights, bar tab, food, caddies are not included in this daily total. It is expensive but we can look at certain options to see what works for everyone.
Edit: If we don’t want to go through a travel company because the cost is too high I am happy to help coordinating things but with 12 people it is a lot of work. We may need to split up into pods/groups to make things work easier.
I’m all in for making this.
My grandfather died a few weeks ago, he grew up in Paisley just outside Edinburgh. Was a lifelong Rangers fan and even though they don’t allow it anymore I plan on smuggling some of his ashes onto the grounds there as well as St. Andrews.
I never got to go with him so while he was with us, I’m damn sure going over with him one way or another.
Anyone know how we can watch The Match VII tomorrow in Canada? I know the other ones were on some sort of CNN channel that I think like 1000 people have.
Yes this one is actually on Sportsnet, so should be easy to access. Hopefully they get more into golf content going forward.
wow, that is sick, Thanks. Yeah, it is definitely a hole in their portfolio. RDS/TSN kind of has a stranglehold on everything golf in Canada
Hello Duck Clubbers,
I’m going to be in Portland, Ontario on Big Rideau Lake in July next year and looking to see if there are any of you familiar with any decent courses near there. For reference it’s about 45 minutes north/northeast of Kingston. Dually, if anyone wants to get together for a round near there you’re more than welcome.
Hey! A number of the crew in that rough area just lapsed as Nest members - I’ll put the word out in our chat and see who I can connect you with. Stay tuned…
