@duncmitchell I wasn’t going to toot his horn too much until my review of everything, but Colin is one of the nicest, humblest, down to earth people I’ve played with & had the pleasure to spend a day with. He was a phenomenal host at a phenomenal course, I couldn’t have asked for a better day.
Mad properly captured my imagination. Lucky enough to have been out there a couple times with Colin, and hitting the ball like shit does absolutely nothing to dampen my mood there. Just the most wonderful club to spend time at.
The course is a little quirky, there’s some wildly tough shots out there, and I just have a grin on my face for every single one of them.
Plus Colin rocks. Obvs.
ALSO, their peameal sandwich is elite-tier golf course food.
It was seriously so fun. The Mad Mile was a riot, and all the par 3’s are so good. 5 par 5’s and 5 par 3’s is great too, I seriously have nothing negative.
I played pretty bad on the front for a second and I said “you know a course is great when you’re playing like shit and loving every second.”
Lots of great things to say about Mad, but I especially love the short grass around the greens and some fun backstops in strategic areas. We need way more short grass around greens on Ontario golf courses — Mad does a great job balancing everything.
Late to the party here, but if you want a Thompson, and you’re close enough to Rockway Vineyards, hit up Whirlpool. It’s a Thompson and it’s a challenge……unless you mean Rockway Rockway, and not Rockway Vineyards….then I’ll just go sit back down.
I didnt as I arrived only fifteen minutes before due to traffic. I did hit the practice green though which was lucky because the greens were very very quick.
It is tough. Everyone is always talking about how they love it firm and fast in the golf guis world. But then you go to Coppinwood and it is so firm and so fast, it makes you question if thats really the most fun, because it’s so frigging difficult.
Or maybe that was just me.
I got the chance to play it last year, holes 2 3 4 were being renovated. We played the the practice holes first then went to number one. The second practice hole might have been my favourite of the entire course.
Also saw my childhood hero Darcy Tucker after the 3rd hole passing us by. Cool
