Roll Call: The Duck Club | Canadians, Beer and Cow Pastures

@duncmitchell I wasn’t going to toot his horn too much until my review of everything, but Colin is one of the nicest, humblest, down to earth people I’ve played with & had the pleasure to spend a day with. He was a phenomenal host at a phenomenal course, I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

(Even snuck a birdie out of Mad)

That 15, 16, 17, 18 stretch is pretty special eh? Also 12 is crazy good, along with 5 and 6.

God I am just enamoured by that course.

Hell yeah. Agree wholehearted on all fronts.

Mad properly captured my imagination. Lucky enough to have been out there a couple times with Colin, and hitting the ball like shit does absolutely nothing to dampen my mood there. Just the most wonderful club to spend time at.

The course is a little quirky, there’s some wildly tough shots out there, and I just have a grin on my face for every single one of them.

Plus Colin rocks. Obvs.

ALSO, their peameal sandwich is elite-tier golf course food.

It was seriously so fun. The Mad Mile was a riot, and all the par 3’s are so good. 5 par 5’s and 5 par 3’s is great too, I seriously have nothing negative.

I played pretty bad on the front for a second and I said “you know a course is great when you’re playing like shit and loving every second.”

Such a good course.

Lots of great things to say about Mad, but I especially love the short grass around the greens and some fun backstops in strategic areas. We need way more short grass around greens on Ontario golf courses — Mad does a great job balancing everything.

Postage stamp greens with 6 inch rough surrounding it. Most courses don’t even have a first cut anymore.

Secondly, he isn’t holding you hostage next to a cooler full of Creemore is he?

I now wish we’d spent more time establishing safe words…

Not exactly what I expected to see when I showed up on here today. Appreciate all the nice comments!

Glad you enjoyed the course. Was a great day out there with you and was happy to host you on a trip we are all envious of this run of golf you are on.

Thankfully this went better than it could have.

I think this is pretty true. There is so much variety and each time I play it there are always new shots.

I save this move for tournament weekends only.

Enjoy it out there!

I definitely had my fair share of Creemore. Loved the local brew!

@noslenod you nailed my exact thoughts. The shaved grass around the greens was so fun & I wish more courses did it. Such a riot!

Late to the party here, but if you want a Thompson, and you’re close enough to Rockway Vineyards, hit up Whirlpool. It’s a Thompson and it’s a challenge……unless you mean Rockway Rockway, and not Rockway Vineyards….then I’ll just go sit back down.

Coppinwood is so good. Enjoy!
P.S: Dont hit it into the Devil’s asshole bunker on 8. It is a nigh impossible up and down.

I think Whirlpool has some ongoing renovations or something going on to where I said I’d have to hit it at a later date, but good shout!

Coppinwood was great but tough. And long. We played from the second hardest tees which added at least six shots to my score.

Did you get a chance to check out their practice holes as well?

I didnt as I arrived only fifteen minutes before due to traffic. I did hit the practice green though which was lucky because the greens were very very quick.

It is tough. Everyone is always talking about how they love it firm and fast in the golf guis world. But then you go to Coppinwood and it is so firm and so fast, it makes you question if thats really the most fun, because it’s so frigging difficult.

Or maybe that was just me.

I got the chance to play it last year, holes 2 3 4 were being renovated. We played the the practice holes first then went to number one. The second practice hole might have been my favourite of the entire course.

Also saw my childhood hero Darcy Tucker after the 3rd hole passing us by. Cool
