If it were me, I’d book Rockway. Then call the shop, explain to them your trip, and ask / beg for a spot earlier. Maybe someone cancels and they can help you out before the time pops up on the booking engine.
Or, let’s crowdsource another public Thompson somewhere. There might be a cool 9-holer you can slide on to for some history.
But honestly, I’d play as many holes as I could as Rockway vs 18 at Savannah.

The pace at Rockway on a Friday morning should be good. I play there every Saturday morning and it’s 3.5-4 hours that we play in. It’s pretty relaxed so I’m sure you could also book that time and show up a bit early and they’d fit you in if there’s an opening.
I’m a member at a Thompson renovated course. But its about 300km SW of where you’re looking.

I’m late to this, but it’s absolutely the right choice. Love Rockway.
Routing is quirky as hell (you cross the street between 3 and 4 and again between 6 and 7) but it’s fun. Lots of mounding and hills and is definitely harder than it’s rated. Enjoy!

Long story short, it’s one of my favorite courses I’ve ever played & I’m thankful to be able to say I’ve played it. Every hole is fun & interesting, I can’t say there was a single one I didn’t think was awesome.
I’m currently wearing my Mad River hat & will be proudly sporting it for many rounds to come!
