First three are all good choices.
I’d skip Houndslake. Aiken GC is more fun.
Anyone else having issues viewing the roost Google group? I have an email saying that I was added to the group but when I go to the website it says that it is unavailable to me. When I look at the list of groups I am in it is not there.
@EZmiss set it up as an easy way for me to email the group. It wont be used for anything other than that purpose by me. I will send out a test later to see if it is working.
Have made some progress securing Charlston Muni, CC of Lexington for events this year. Meeting with the owner of Aiken Golf Club next week.
We also have our first Roost Captains meeting next week so I will let yall know what I find out.
Aiken Golf Club
Mine and @EZmiss promise is not to clutter your inbox.
As Luke mentioned, I set it up for ease of communication since not everyone is in the Nest and not everyone has WhatsApp, but everyone has an email.
I was toying with it yesterday and didnt know it was sending out emails, but have officially set it up today and you should have received (yet another) an email. That group is legit and won’t be deleted.
If you have multiple Gmail accounts like I do, make sure after you follow the link, the email assigned to the group is selected. My spam account is default so it switched to that following the link. I had to change back to the account in their group to access.
Season long Match Play
Taking the CLC match play success of 2021 we are going to have a season long match play with the SC Cannon Roost.
Please sign up on the below google sheet. I will set up pods based on your area of request. Depending on the number of people signed up x number will advance from the pod play to the bracket stage. Timeline and more information to come but lets get people signed up!
We will also be able to use some of our events to host matches.
Look at Charleston area jumping in with the biggest contingent
Hello everyone from Denver. My family is looking at possibly going to Myrtle Beach in early June. I’m starting to look into places to stay now, but I wanted to drop by this thread and see if anyone had any suggestions about where to stay or where not to stay. We have kids that will be 2 and 6, and we’re mostly looking for a place that is walkable with them to the beach. If anyone has any advice or anything like that, I would appreciate it.
Sadly, I’ll probably only get one round of golf in, so I’ll have to choose wisely. Looks like I’ll have plenty of options to choose from though, based on a quick look at google maps.
I’m partial to the South Strand area. Close to MB but not right in the mix. Garden City and Surfside have a lot of options. A little bit farther south (5-10 minutes) would be great as well. North Litchfield, Litchfield by the Sea and Pawleys are much quieter but still have a lot to do. And close to Caledonia and True Blue on the golf side.
Background grew up on the Grand Strand and still have family down there. Have a 2 and 5 year old.
I dislike Myrtle proper but I’m a bit biased growing up in the south end. I agree with @bluehose that garden city or surfside are good choices and still close enough to Myrtle to do all the stuff up there. If you want to be in a quieter part go down to pawleys island. One thing you could do if you are up for it is stay at a “campground” that has basically everything on the property. Ocean Lakes is the one I would recommend. You can rent a house and once you get there you don’t have to leave.
Finding a golf course will not be a problem. Have the highest density of courses in the US.
Glad to answer any other questions you have once you are closer to making a choice. Can also provide recommendations for things to do and restaurants too if you want.
Don’t tell these outsiders about areas other than Myrtle Beach guys!!!
He asked about Myrtle Beach! Plus with kids that age it’s really hard to beat for the price. Sure Charleston is better but I think everyone knows that. For an affordable family beach vacation with a ton of golf Myrtle is the answer. As long as you avoid the sketchy areas.
I’m joking but was referring to places like Pawley’s Island. All the out of staters must stay confined to MB proper
when I was living there I couldn’t have agreed more.
Wife’s parents live in Little River and we were there for a little while the past summer. I needed to go pick something up so I went to Walmart but then I realized it was a Saturday.
All out of state cars during covid I don’t think I’ve turned around faster
Thanks, all. Are there any areas to avoid with kids? Also, we’re probably going the first full week of June. Is it going to be slightly less busy then at all?
We are half joking about it being dangerous. As long as you don’t stay in Myrtle proper you will have no problems for your kids. All the tourist place are safe and stuff. Yes going in the beginning of June is a good idea.
Haha, no kidding. I’m not worried about it being unsafe. More if there’s a party area of town that we should avoid. Sounds like the areas you’ve suggested are great. We’re thinking about doing a week in myrtle beach and then heading down to Charleston for a few days too. Sounds like that would be a good plan.
Thanks all!
