Roll Call: South Carolina Golfers

I have to be at a presentation until 10:45. So unless it’s a long frost delay probably won’t work.

Links course is a million times better than the harbour course IMO. Should be a good time.

My membership at the Greenwood Country Club includes reciprocal privileges at four other clubs, about which I know nothing and would love any inside info.

Columbia Country Club
Country Club of Spartanburg
Florence Country Club
Houndslake Country Club, Aiken

I haven’t played the others but my wife is from Spartanburg and I love playing there when I’m home. Bent greens get a little spotty in the summer but overall great track.

Can’t speak to the current conditions but CCC is one of the tops in Columbia usually. They host Open qualifiers about every other year. 27 holes and a pretty big membership.

Well I appreciate the offers to play everyone, but I think I’m just gonna leave the clubs in Tampa. Short trip and not a ton of wiggle room between my schedule and weather. Another time SC friends!

Going to be v cold friday - but we have an indoor sim that’s nice called Carolina Indoor Golf, if you decide to bring the clubs. Helps to make a reservation.

I’m a member at Columbia. Hosts multiple CGA and SCGA events, mini tour events, USGA qualifiers, SEC ladies events. Very consistent conditions.

I’d imagine other folks on this thread would validate, but we honestly have the best greens I’ve ever played on a consistent basis. We have a member who is a caddy on tour, and after one dogfight we asked him and his guest (who also was a caddy on tour) how good our greens compare, and they landed on Jackson CC (Sanderson Farms) and Sedgefield as being the only ones they play that are as smooth and fast, as ours on a regular basis. Past couple of weeks have been weirdly slow, but they’re generally around 12.

Layout is a Maples design, so if you’ve ever played Orangeburg, you’d get a good sense for what to expect. It’s on the edge of the Sandhills, so it generally plays firmer and faster than most courses in the midlands.

Pretty active low cap membership. In our Club Championship this year, there were 19 guys w/ Handicaps @ 1 or below. (Which was missing a few guys who have qualified for USGA events, and didn’t count the senior flight)

The one soft spot right now is the bunkers, which need some renovation.

It’s a pretty no-frills place. If you have a reciprocal at CCC you probably have one at Camden as well, which I’d also recommend.

Florence is also pretty good. It’s quirky, kind of short, but is generally in great shape. I haven’t played it in the winter, but imagine it would be pretty wet on the front nine.

Let me know if you have any questions about CCC.

One more thing on Florence for the others in this thread. They have an unreal learning center. I’ve taken a few lessons from Paul Woodbury over there. He’s a great teacher, and has all the gadgets (trackman, pressure mats, emails you a run through video of your numbers and how to embed the changes).

Since their learning center is indoors with a garage door to the outside, it’s a good full year option.

He seems to primarily work with high schoolers and College kids (a handful of USC players, and has been dabbling with a few pros), but does do some work with adults.

Check him out on Instagram if you’re looking for someone to get lessons from. I’ve been pleased with him.

Hate we’re gonna miss ya

that was the sense I got from my friend. stopped just short of calling the Harbor course a disgrace

It’s a far cry from a disgrace, but it isn’t typical American big fairways, big greens, 7000+y course. It’s a target course that plays tougher than yardage and almost always has wind, especially along the intracoastal. I enjoy the difference between Links and Harbor courses.

CCC- Usually one of the better spots in the midlands, i havent played it in years though

CCS- home course so a little biased, still hosts one of the top junior tourneys, really made some improvements in the last few years, one of the nines is an old ross, length is shorter but protected with a lot of fun greens, greens are usually in great shape

Florence - only played once but had a blast

Know nothing about houndslake.

Spartanburg is fantastic. Maybe not the condition that some of the other courses in the state are but it’s a great layout. Been maybe 2 years since I’ve played it though so condition could be improved.

Florence is a ton of fun. Great track.

I’ll second what someone said about Camden. You may hate it at first but a few rounds out there and it really starts to grow on you. The 5th is a ~300 yard par 4 and I’m pretty sure I’ve still not parred it in 5-6 rounds out there. Really enjoyable layout if you embrace the quirky.

Not sure how far along in the #process this logo is at, but just wondering if there is anyway to put the Palmetto tree or crescent in here. Just thinking that those two elements are very specific to SC? Maybe even just a golf flag with a crescent on it? That would be a very specific nod to the revolutionary Battle at Fort Sullivan.

I should add that this is excellent technical work by @tylernichols91 and vision by our Captain @LukeBoatright
