Currently by the Chanticleer course but only for another month. Then will be in Easley til end of March. Exploring the area before getting something more permanent. Ideally would find a club to join and then move close but am loving Furman so may postpone joining somewhere. Like the idea of Easley and splitting time between Furman and Walker.
I’m originally from Easley. Not a bad spot. Check out Southern Oaks. My parents live in Smithfields, but the course doesn’t really appeal to me.
If anyone wants to play next Sunday in Charleston, we’ve got an extra foursome at the Muni at 930. Full group of Midlands guys in the group behind.
(we didnt communicate and got two tee times)
You are the second to short Smithfields. Not terribly surprising when looking at google maps and the scorecard.
I’ll be the third to short Smithfields. I played it a couple months ago and really didn’t enjoy a bunch of the holes out there.
Put me down for the fourth to bash Smithfields. It’s fine, but far too much OB.
Welcome to the board @dclthomas! Glad to see you joined the board!
@abefroman organized a round with @FireMarkFox and me this past Sunday at Furman. @dclthomas was a single that joined up with us. He had no clue as to what the Refuge was, so he was quite perplexed when I asked him if he was the refugee playing with @abefroman and me today.
Fun day all around and glad to see we have a new refugee!
That’s a good group right there!
Hahaha. When I introduced myself to @FUwolfpacker on the range as I overheard we had the same teetime and he was like, “Oh are you a refugee?”
What? Huh? Do I really stand out that much in SC? It’s that obvious I’m from somewhere else? And they call us refugees down here and not transplants or whatever! Damn!
Good laughs and good golf!
All’s well that ends well! Good group for sure!
I really need to get back up to Furman.
I’m playing there 3 days next week. Looks like 30th & 31st still has a spot available while the 1st has 3 spots. Join on up!
30th @10:33
31st @12:15
1st @12:23
Can’t those dates but coming up to play with @tigergolftraveler first week of Jan. We’ll post out plans to see if anyone is free.
I didn’t care for Furman at all. What am I missing?
I haven’t been up there in 12+ Years since coaching during state golf finals.
I don’t think you’re necessarily “missing” anything. Just a good public option.
Welcome to the Upstate! Don’t sleep on Legacy Pines and never be afraid to drive over to Anderson for some #Golf. Cobbs Glenn and Boscobel are super fun. And Clemson’s Walker Course is the absolute best.
It’s a great public option and normally in great shape. I like it because it is challenging but very fair. If you are wild off the tee, you are punished but your hole is not over. The greens are typically in really good shape and a lot of fun!
I made it through 5 holes at Walker course before getting rained out. Will be in Easley for 6 weeks so definitely plan on heading back out that way often.
The other 3 courses you mentioned are all part of that Traveling Country Club. Anyone a part of that? As someone who prefers to walk, I’m torn that the $20 fee includes cart which makes me feel you are just paying cart fees that I won’t use.
Yes, I am a TCC member. I wouldn’t join if your only goal is to save money, especially if you are walking. However, its another way to find groups of people who like golf and play a lot. They do a good job with playing events and social events. Unfortunately Furman nor Walker are apart of TCC because of their university connection.
Of the few places I’ve played thus far, Furman is in great shape with fast greens. I like the fact the first 6 holes are all scoring opportunities but still require accurate approaches to the correct side of the flags as the greens still do well to protect. All par 5’s can be reached in 2; no forced layups off tee or approach to green. That’s not to say they are easy either.
