Roll Call: South Carolina Golfers

If I was staying on IoP, and only coming for a few days I’d play the two Wild Dunes courses and The Muni. Depending on where you are staying on IoP, Kiawah can be upwards of 90 minutes away. The wild dunes courses are pretty tight and somewhat overpriced, but it will be very convenient compared to anywhere else

Listen to what @hakimimj says. Depending on the time of day you get on the road, you could be 60ish minutes from the Muni as well. You’re also significantly closer to Charleston National, but I’m not a huge fan.

I think if you are okay with paying for it go to Kiawah. Yes it is going to be a 90 min drive but the experience is going to be much better than any of the other courses and I think it is definitely worth doing once.

If you decide not to do that then I would just play the Muni twice. I don’t think any of the other public courses in the area can compare. Also agree with @EZmiss I would stay away from Charleston National, it’s really narrow off the tee and I never really enjoy myself out there. Some other public options near you would also be Rivertowne and Dunes West.

I definitely agree here. Kiawah is a great experience, but it is pricey. A round at the Ocean course is probably $500 in May. The other courses are in the $200 range unless you do a package.

I think Dunes West is a bit underrated, I like the course. It is usually in nice shape and is probably the next best option for you

I’ll be heading down to Charleston next week for the Iron Maverick II tournament and have a free day on Wednesday if anyone wants to get a game. I’ll be staying on James Island but fine getting any where around Charleston.

Was thinking the Muni but apparently all tee times are booked…is this normal? Maybe they don’t open them up this far in advance?

Week in advance, so next Wed should be open today. Might be aerating. @hakimimj or @edwardt2 you guys know anything?

However, from their website:

Never heard of the Iron Maverick or Golf Crusade, but that is a damn deal and a half…

I agree with @EZmiss this deal is amazing. Caledonia and True Blue are two of the best courses in the Myrtle area.

That’s a steal @EZmiss

Yeah this is the second event they have put on. I was at the first one at Royal New Kent.

So is this a tournament that was a prior rain out or is it a potential rain date?

If it’s a prior rain out date I guess I’ll have to look else where for a tee time.

No idea. If Muni doesnt work, I’d go to Stono Ferry, not that far away. Not sure where you are staying though.

Was just look at that now. I have played pretty much everywhere in the area except Patriots Point.

I am staying the night on James Island and fly out of CHS at 6:45pm so I have lots of time to kill.

Man, Congrats on getting in there! Had my dad, brother, and myself all online and ready as soon as it listed. That thing sold out immediately. Looking forward to how it is.

Yeah I am friends with the founders and they were blown away how quick it sold out.

The first one was great and can only get better with more experience.

I am completely guessing since the first was at Royal New Kent, but are they (and you) VA guys?

Nah none are actually VA located. It is more geared towards Strantz at first and with RNK reopening shortly before the event it was a perfect partner.

We tried to get into it and it sold out in like 20 seconds. My friends were on the computer with all our info ready the second it opened and we didn’t get in :upside_down_face:

I would follow them and keep up to date with them for future events. Typically the Iron Maverick is in mid to late September.
