Roll Call: South Carolina Golfers

Second @FUwolfpacker that Lewis BBQ is incredible (texas-style bbq). But, Rodney Scott won a freaking James Beard award last year (Best Chef: Southeast). Also a fan of O-Ku (half price sushi for happy hour on MWF). Minero has great tacos.

Steakhouse - can’t go wrong with Halls Chophouse. I love Monza on King St for “date-style” pizza. Warren Street also has two great restaurants, Pane e Vino (Italitan, not overpriced, super authentic - owner’s name is literally Alfredo) and Stella’s (Greek, great menu with tons of options, but get the lamb). A block away is Rue de Jean (French) which is always highly rated. Hope you enjoy the city!

You also have to promise to not call me a Bellhop…

I second this. The sunday brunch was killer. If you find yourself near the market for breakfast, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit does have really good biscuits (if that’s your thing).

Hard to beat some smoked wings and a Gamechanger from Home Team BBQ if you’re out on Sullivan’s (though I think they now have locations downtown and West Ashley)

Leon’s Oyster Shop - oysters and fried chicken in a converted auto shop, a bit outside the main tourist area.

Thanks for all the help. We are honeymooning in HHI and Charleston October 11-18th. Not sure if I am going to bring my clubs but if I did, would anyone have any interest in meeting up for a round on the island. My wife doesn’t play so I am torn if I should bring them or not.

I’ll second Leon’s and add Poogan’s Porch, the Daily and Xiao Bao. Really can’t go wrong with food in Charleston.

I’m up here at Clemson. Up here studying biology, but really “majoring” in golf! Pretty decent, lucky to play bogey golf but not much worse.

Wife’s family lives in Sumter and we’re there pretty often. This is excellent news (and is one of only a few things that’ll make me actually want to go there)

Question for you guys. I’m taking off work next Friday and was going to make the drive from Atlanta to Aiken to play Aiken Golf Club. Worth it? Another option could be Furman, but heard a lot of good things about AGC, so figured I’d ask this group.

Haven’t played Aiken but based on people I trust it’s a definite stop. Definitely over Furman.

Not from SC but was visiting in June- made the ride down from Greenville and didn’t regret it. Cancelled afternoon plans to play twice.

FWIW my golf is usually played on Irish links & UK heathland/sandbased courses so my bias is towards the style of golf which those encourage/reward.

I thought Aiken was really fun and fair.

Had the opportunity to play Aiken for the first time over Labor Day weekend and loved it. Would definitely suggest walking as it’s not a long course. Great variety of holes with some get-able par 5’s and unique par 4’s. Greens were in great shape too
