I mean, I love True Blue, but
Pawleys Island can be a fun round.
That’s what my friend mentioned. That might be what we go with
While it’s probably good, I was hoping to get a little bit more variety
If you’re wanting to stay in that area, Heritage and Pawleys are pretty good bets. Legends Heathland and The Dye and Love courses at barefoot were also pretty good.
I enjoy River Club in Pawley’s Island. I also hear good things about Arrowhead from locals, but they are locals.
I’ll double down. Caledonia is target golf. It’s not bad, but True Blue can be played many ways. It’s much more similar to TR but less dramatic. From the tips it’s a beast. Caledonia from the tips is merely challenging. I don’t hit driver but on ~6 holes depending on wind. TB is more fun and more appealing to my eye all the way around.
Agree to disagree
We’re disagreeing about two tremendous courses, with each of us preferring a different of the two. If you get to play either, it’s a great day.
and we get to the root of it
I’ll second that the Dye Club at Barefoot is a really good course, lots of variety and challenge without being too over the top Pete Dye.
I would recommend Heritage in the Pawleys area. Since you are staying in Florence though I would look into Tidewater.
Wow, spicy take! I was supposed to play Caledonia last month but had to push it off. I’m excited to see how they compare.
Is anyone going to the RBC next weekend? We are going on Sunday. I can’t wait to attend a live sporting event again.
I booked a tee time for Saturday morning at CC of Hilton Head. As the lowest tier ClubCorp member, it is 50% off. Has anyone played there?
Haven’t played that one. Would recommend Robert Trent Jones course at Palmetto Dunes and Hilton Head National in Bluffton as public options if you get a chance to play more than once.
CC of HH is a nice track. I haven’t been out there this year but its usually in good shape. Definitely one of the better public options on the island.
Solid option, played it with my FIL & BIL last spring. The back 9 has some tight holes, which, as you’ve witnessed, are not necessarily my strong suit. But good conditioning and fun to play. I’d play it again.
Would anyone have interest in a Lowcountry WhatsApp chat?
Brad Gray and I are lining up a Strapped: I-20 (Augusta, North Augusta, Aiken) trip in early May. We hope to play Midland Valley (between Aiken and Augusta), Mount Vintage (between Edgefield and North Augusta), and Aiken Golf Club from Monday, May 3 through Wednesday, May 5. We are going to find an AirBnB around the Augusta/North Augusta area for two nights.
We wanted to open this up if a couple of you are interested. Let me know! I’m going to try to line up courses this week. Enjoy Masters Sunday!

Just asked some locals on dive bars / reasonable priced food. Tailgate tavern or Grumpys. Grumpys sounds like it’s made for strapped, lots of:
Skip Midland and play Forest Hills in Augusta for sure. I live in Augusta and may be able to join depending on my work schedule.
